Glenn Pace Obituary

Glenn L. Pace
1940 - 2017
Our husband, father, brother and grandfather passed away peacefully May 16, 2017. He was in his Bountiful home surrounded by his family who loved him deeply.
Glenn was born in Provo, Utah, on March 21, 1940, to Kenneth LeRoy Pace and Elizabeth Anna Wilde. He graduated from Provo High School and attended Brigham Young University until he served a LDS Mission to the New England States. Shortly after his return, he married his childhood sweetheart, Jolene Clayson in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 7, 1963. Together they raised six children. Glenn graduated from BYU with a Master of Accountancy Degree and worked as a certified public accountant. He was successful in working for an international accounting firm and in real estate development.
Called as a General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 6, 1985, Glenn served as second counselor in the Presiding Bishopric until his call to the First Quorum of the Seventy on Oct. 3, 1992. He served as the president of the North America Northwest Area, the Africa West Area, Australia Sydney North Mission and the North American Northeast Area. Glenn worked for nine years in the Welfare Services Department of the Church, including four years as managing director.
Glenn connected to people through his humor. He was observant, intuitive, insightful and nonjudgmental. As a genuine listener, he had a way of understanding our hearts.
Glenn loved the history of the church, the prophet Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum. He found strength in the lives and struggles of the early saints. While in Africa, he taught these stories to the pioneering saints in preparing that beautiful land to receive their own temples. In his unique, accepting and personal way, Glenn was able to reach out to masses while loving the one.
Glenn felt that family was the center of the gospel and cherished the privilege of performing many sealings in the temple. He loved to testify that those on the other side are present in our lives. Upon receiving emeritus status as a general authority, he said, "I have had many wonderful assignments. Now it's time, to focus on my most important one; Dad and Grandpa." His children have found joy watching his devotion and tenderness toward his sweetheart, eternal companion, and best friend Jolene.
In the final days of Glenn's life, his family was flooded with expressions of gratitude from those he influenced. They had felt their worth as Glenn loved them like the Savior does. As family and friends gathered around his bed, Glenn's final heartfelt counsel was, "Look around you, notice the one who is hurting and love them."
Glenn is survived by his wife Jolene and their six children; Kyle (Leandra), Rikki (Ryan), Korey (Stephanie), Darin (Mandy), Brandon (Amy) and Joe'll (Rusty); 35 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held. A public viewing will be Friday, May 19, 2017, at the Bountiful 13th Ward chapel at 1350 N, 650 East, Bountiful, Utah, from 6 to 8 p.m. On Saturday, the funeral services will also be at the Bountiful 13th Ward chapel at 12:30 p.m. with a public viewing prior to the funeral from 11 a.m. to noon. I just found out about President Pace's passing. He was had a incredible impact on my last 4-5 months in the Mission Field. We would listen to his talks in Zone and Mission Conference and we could relate to them. He filled us with the spirit.

A number of years ago, he came to our Stake Conference. I was so excited I told no one.
I didn't want to end up speaking. After the Saturday afternoon session, I waited for most to clear out. Elder Pace was there visiting with our Stake Presidency. I went up and he looked at me and I said "I know it is Elder, but I still have to call you President." He shook my had and pulled me into a bear hug and said "Elder Power." Our Stake Presidency was a little less than confused. He then explained that I was one of his missionaries. Even after 12 years, he knew the month and year I went home.

The next couple of days were wonderful listening to this spiritual giant speak.

An incredible man. Thank you for sharing him with the world.

We will miss you President Pace, but the work goes on.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you the Pace Family.

I discovered this sad news late. I looked at President Pace as a surrogate father to me and my brothers and sisters of the ASNM. I don't know what to say but my condolences to his family and loved ones.

The best talk I have ever heard on women was given by Elder Pace. I used it for my visiting teaching lesson just before Mother's Day last week Elder Pace set me apart as a missionary. I love and respect him. Thank you for sharing him with all of us!

Sister Pace and family,

You do not know me, but I stumbled across this obituary a few minutes ago and wanted to share my thoughts about this wonderful man.

No matter how many messages are written, it would not be sufficient to expess all the good Elder Pace did in this world. His messages of God's love and hope live on in the hearts of many of us.

Just this morning, after seeing this obituary, I went back to re-read a BYU-Speech of his, which has long had an impact on my heart.

How apropos his words seem now from that speech:

"Just one day before Elder McConkie's address, I received my call to the Presiding Bishopric. One day after his address, on Easter morning, at 5:00 a.m., I was writing my remarks to be delivered that afternoon. As I reflected on Elder McConkie's beautiful oration, I was overcome with the knowledge of my own weaknesses and inadequacies. However, as I began to comprehend what had taken place in my own life, self-doubt was replaced with peace, confidence, and eternal joy. I wept."

"I penned the words that seem appropriate to repeat at this time: I love the Lord Jesus Christ. I love the transformation his atonement has wrought in me. I once was in darkness, and now see light. I once lost all of my confidence, and now know all things are possible in the Lord. I once felt shame and now am filled . . . with his love, even unto the consuming of my flesh (2 Nephi 4:21). I am encircled about eternally in the arms of his love (2 Nephi 1:15)."

He is now truly encircled in the arms of God's love! Despite this knowledge, I am sorry for your loss, as you are left to mourn his absence.

Thank you for supporting him, and sharing him with so many of us who were blessed by his goodness.

Love,
Christine Hall

Dear Sister Pace & family, Joy and I have such fond memories of our friend and colleague, Elder Glenn L. Pace, with whom I served and whose neighbor I was in the Church Office Building. We also recall seeing you frequently together and enjoying each other's company at BYU football games. Elder Pace was a pleasant man with a warm smile and friendly greeting for all whom he encountered. We are serving at the United Nations in Geneva and will, unfortunately, be unable to attend the viewing and funeral service. We will, however, have you in our prayers and be offering silent and heartfelt condolences as we think of you.

Jolene and Family,
It is with love that I send you my condolences. Glenn and your family have played an important part in my life. I thank you for your friendship! As a neighbor and a bishop, I have watched Glenn grow and mature spiritually. His desire to serve the Lord and his fellowmen brought about some great changes in his life. I and my family have been blessed to be among your neighbors and friends. We planned to attend Glenn's funeral, but unfortunately We will not be able to make the trip.
May you find peace and comfort through the knowledge you will be reunited as a family because of the sealing ordinance of the temple and because of Glenn's and your faithfulness.

Brother Glenn has always been a great leader in the Gospel. He was great with the youth in our Bountiful 13th ward and always has had a great Spirit about him.
Jolene and family our sincere condolences to you. May you find peace and comfort in your sweet memories of the years. My heart goes out to you.
I'm sure you remember my Peggy. She passed away April 10th. There are no words that can express the loss we feel when we loose our loved ones. A piece of us goes with them.
May Gods Blessings be upon you and know that others love you and are thinking of you.

I am truly grateful for the opportunity I had to know President Pace and Sister Pace. I love them both so dearly. So grateful for his love, encouragement, patience and understanding. When my brother died while I was on my mission, he taught me that our deceased loved ones are not far from us- what a wonderful principle! I have carried hope in my heart ever since. I truly look forward to the day when we shall meet our friends and family again. What a glorious day that will be! To Sister Pace and family, please know that you are cherished and I send my deepest sympathy at this tender time.

Thinking of you all at this time of President Pace's(how I knew him) passing. What a wonderful man, who touched so many lives. Gone too soon, but he lived and stretched his days. An inspiration to all who knew him, of that I am sure. Thinking of you all with love from Newcastle Australia.

It is a very heavy heart to hear of the passing of an amazing man. I will always remember President Glenn L. Pace as a key figure in my life. He truly served with great integrity of heart and understood the importance of having a testimony of our Savior, Jesus Christ. May your journey be sweet as you rest from all your earthly labors President Pace.
With the sweetest alofa'aga and condolences at this time to the Pace family.
Sincerely - Bro L. Clint Samaseia, ASNM Missionary 1994 - 1996.

There are a handful of men who have been integral in my development as a man and as a disciple of Jesus Christ. President Pace was one of them. I think often of his example of charity and of his dedication to the Church and Kingdom of God. I also think frequently about his and Sister Pace's desire that all of us who served in the Australia Sydney North Mission would be converted and faithfully live the gospel. He was a great man, and a great example - so important to me that one of my sons is named Pace. To all of you, but especially Sister Pace and Joe'll, my prayers are with you.

With Love,
Shawn Gee
