I am so sorry I was unable to attend Matt's memorial service however I did offer a Mass on his behalf. Matt and I worked together in The Miracle Worker when he was about 12. I could see then that he was destined to make a major contribution to the Arts. You will be missed Matt, by all of us.

To all of Matt's families--
Thinking of you after learning today of his untimely death. I haven't seen Matt since the last time we worked together many years ago, but I will always remember his talent and good cheer. He was a pleasure to be with and to work with. So glad to hear he was doing so well and enjoying the love in his work and his life. His art touched many lives along the way. With sympathy and love--

Thank you to everyone who made the service today so fitting a tribute for Matthew. It was such a gift to remember this special, talented being and to be part of celebrating him with the rest of the generous and loving theatrical community of the Lehigh Valley.

How lucky we were to have grown up with such caring, talented people producing theatre and fostering our talent : Civic Little Theatre, especially (Where it all began for so many of us!); Guthsville, PA Playhouse, Shepherd HIlls, Muhlenberg College and PA Stage Co., not to mention our musical education and opportunities at Allen High with George Boyer, the choir and the chorale.

Playing on stage with and opposite Matthew was an honor. He touched my heart in ways that only a leading man can. I am so saddened that the world will no longer have the opportunity to see this exquisite person and entertainer.

I express deep sadness in finding out this information today. I roomed with Matt in 1987 in Hershey, PA when we both were performing at the park. I will forever remember his quote in the show when the cast of the country show introduced themselves... "I am Matt Smith from Allentown, PA and remember, "You've Got A Friend In Pennsylvania". Much love and light to his family at this time.

Matthew was an amazing human being. One of the most talented individuals with whom I have worked in the theatre, Matthew was also one of the funniest, fastest wits backstage. Onstage he was amazingly grounded and so effortlessly musical. Backstage he could crack you up with just a look... A knowing look... He will be missed tremendously. But he will never be forgotten.

Matthew was such a bright spot in my day, whenever he might appear. I can't believe that smile shines no more. But we will each carry it with us in the warm and wonderful memories he leaves with us, and in each life he touched. I am so thankful he touched mine.
