Owen Mire Obituary

Owen Joseph Mire Jr., 86, a native of Patterson and resident of Franklin for the past 65 years, passed away at 12:52 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013.
Visitation was from 9 a.m. until funeral time Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Centerville. A Mass of Christian burial was at 1 p.m. Monday at the church.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lee Ann Borel Mire; eight children, Diane Mire Nix and husband, Mike, Danny Mire and wife, Sue, Maria Mire Cole and husband, Ronnie, John Mire Sr. and wife, Debbie, David Mire and wife, Cindy, Mike Mire and wife, Carmelita, Monique Mire McMillan and husband, Terry, and Minette Mire Giraud and husband, Al; 18 grandchildren, Hal, Trent and Chris Gilley, Aaron and Sunnie Mire, Corey, Todd and Derek Cole, John Mire Jr., Tricia Mire Ancelet, Mindy Mire Lewis, Eric, Denny and Brian Mire, Brittany Mire Sanders, Scott Mire, and Liz and David Giraud; and numerous great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Owen Joseph Mire Sr.; mother and stepfather, Katherine Gianfala Mire Boudreaux and Carroll Boudreaux; and three sisters, Jule Mire Kreider, Theda Mire Cutrera, and Helen Mire Templet.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, and served during World War II. He was a member of the Marine Corps Devil Dogs. He was a charter member of the West St. Mary Port Commission, a carrier of the Olympic Torch for the 1996 Olympics, Captain and Founder of the Krewe of Agmaroil in Franklin, a past president of the Franklin Little League, active with the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program, and an avid pilot.
