Andrew Linbeck Obituary

Andrew Baird Linbeck
1964-2017
Andrew Baird Linbeck died peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, surrounded by his family. Andrew was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Connie and Leo Linbeck, Jr. and by his mother-in-law, Roseann Johnson.
Andrew was born at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston, Texas on August 29, 1964. He graduated from St. Anne Catholic School; St. Thomas High School; the University of Notre Dame, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in the Program of Liberal Studies; and the Executive Management Program at the Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University.
On July 28, 1990, Andrew married Shanna Shields, and together they built a life of love and faith, welcoming three cherished daughters and making many happy memories at the farm and on family trips.
In 1987, Andrew entered the financial services industry, working at Kidder Peabody, Paine Webber, and The Redstone Companies. In 2002, he co-founded Salient Partners, which is now a national financial services firm with more than 200 professionals. Throughout his career, Andrew worked tirelessly to serve his clients well.
An active community volunteer, Andrew had a special commitment to many Catholic organizations and schools, including Catholic Charities, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Alliance for Catholic Education, St. Mary's Seminary, St. Thomas High School, Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart, and Margil House of Studies, which was founded by his great-aunt and godmother, Mary Nell Davis, and which he led after her death in 2008. Andrew's devotion to Venerable Antonio Margil de Jesus, a 17th century Franciscan priest who founded missions throughout Texas, was a source of comfort and strength to him during his battle with pancreatic cancer.
Andrew had a gift for building and sustaining friendships. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, swimming, riding, barbecuing, and any other activity that combined his love of the outdoors with his love for family and friends. A witty and generous host, he also enjoyed having guests over to watch Notre Dame football, play cards, and work puzzles.
Andrew is survived by his wife Shanna, their daughters Savanna, Miranda, and Danielle, his five siblings and their spouses: Tammy Casey (Bob), Leo Linbeck III (Ellen), Betsy Garibaldi (John), Patrick Linbeck (Bayard), and Mary Clark Granberry (Chris), stepmother Bette Linbeck, father-in-law Rob Johnson, brothers-in-law Trey Shields and Robby Johnson, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The Linbeck family would like to express our sincere thanks to Dr. Gauri Varadhachary, MD and her team at MD Anderson Cancer Center and to Dr. Daniel Von Hoff, MD and his team at TGen in Phoenix, AZ, whose extraordinary care gave Andrew the blessing of an extra year of life, and gave us the blessing of an extra year with Andrew. We also thank Houston Hospice and its excellent staff, Andrew's wonderful home care coordinator, Kathy Killian, and Andrew's exceptional caregivers Annette, Michelle, Kristina, and Deborah. We also convey our deep gratitude to Shirley Capellan for her longtime dedication to our family and her loving care of Andrew during his illness.
The rosary service will be at six o'clock in the evening on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at St. Anne Catholic Church, with a reception following in the parish hall. The funeral mass will be at ten o'clock in the morning on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in downtown Houston. The burial will be private.
The family suggests memorial gifts to Margil House of Studies, P.O. Box 310944, Houston, TX 77231, or online at antoniomargil.org/donate, Myotonic Dystrophy Fund c/o Greater Houston Community Foundation, 5120 Woodway Drive, Suite 6000, Houston, TX 77056, or the charity of your choice.

Deepest Sympathy to all The Linbeck Family at this very sad time. God Bless all of you with His Presence and His Healing. I knew Andrew's wonderful mother, Connie, when we both were St. Thomas MOMS and worked together in The Mother's club there....and our sons have remained good friends though the years. I feel certain both Connie & Leo have welcomed their fine son into God's Kingdom with rejoicing.

I met Andrew when he was just 22 years old. We were opening our new store The Jamail Family Market and his mother, Connie, asked him to come and see me and find out if there was anything she could do to help us get started. Andrew and Connie helped us try to raise money for the new venture and Andrew's knowledge was most helpful. I was touched by their interest in helping us get off the ground with our venture. Kathy and I wish God's blessings on the Linbeck family.

Andrew was an exceptionally talented, kind and generous person who provided his wisdom and support to me and to the Board of Catholic Charities USA as we engaged in organizational transformation. His counsel to me personally was a precious gift. We have all been praying for Andrew through his long battle with cancer and we will continue to carry Shanna and all the family in our hearts and our prayers. May the angels now gently lead Andrew into paradise and may he be welcomed by the whole communion of saints.

With deepest sympathy,
