Betty Baker Obituary

Betty W. Baker Betty White Baker, age 85, gently left her earthly home of Houston on Monday, April 30, 2012, following a courageous battle with lung cancer.
She was born September 5, 1926, in McAllen to the late Jewel Hathcock Frindt and Claude White. She moved to Houston with her mother when she was 12 years-old. She later attended Austin High School and, following attendance at the University of Houston, worked as a medical lab technician for several years.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pasadena and later a member of the Presbyterian Church in Pasadena for many years, serving as Sunday School teacher and College Youth Camp coordinator.
She met her husband, Leland D. Baker, when they were teenagers and have been lovebirds for 70 years together, enduring dating, World War II, and nearly 62 years of marriage. Throughout their life together, they lived in Houston Heights, Pasadena, and in serene Ethan's Glen of Houston for 36 years.
Betty was very proud of her long-time relationship with President and Mrs. George Bush. She was one of Mr. Bush's earliest supporters when he first ran for Congress in 1964, and she has been volunteering in his various offices ever since. To him, she was "Beautiful Betty" - a loyal and treasured friend.
Betty is survived by her husband, Leland, her son, Bill, (Catherine), of Deer Park, three grandchildren, Bethanie Anne Baker, Matthew Christian Carter and Lauren Catherine Carter. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jewel H. Frindt and Frank Frindt.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service for Beautiful Betty at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, May 12th, at the Ethan's Glen townhome community clubhouse, 1 Litchfield Lane, in Houston. Deborah Proctor, Senior Pastor of Deer Park United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Although I did not know Betty personally, I feel like I've known her for years through her sweet friends and neighbors Ako and Henry. Ako sent me a prayer request when Betty was first diagnosed with cancer. The prayer request was updated every time there was a change. Ako kept me up to date on all the things the Baker's did. What they said, what they did where they went - even their sweet little dog. Ako and Henry loved the Bakers and it showed in everything they did and said. After the "story of The Bakers" through precious friends and reading the obituary - I think the Bakers can truly proclaim "It's a Wonderful Life". God Bless the family!

Mr Leland, I did not know you or Ms. Betty, but was included in the prayer request list for Ms. Betty, you and your family by Ako Eckert. Ako's description of Ms. Betty, makes me sad I did not know her personally. My deepest sympathies and prayers to you and your family!

I will miss Betty, our talks, her sense of humor and the times she would knock on our door & tell us to come outside with her to look at the moon. She was a beautiful person and I will remember her fondly.

Hey Leland,

Reading about Betty's death brought great sadness for me and especially for you. She was a wonderful and faithful friend. Charlotte and Betty had such a wonderful relationship, and those days and years we were together at First Presbyterian Church in Pasadena were unique, not to be repeated ever again. My heart and prayers are with you and Bill and all those who loved Betty.
