"Dear Jan and Family,

I want to express my deep sorrow on your loss of Carl. I know I said it in

person, and was so glad to be there.

You all have been very gracious to me, particularly during the 80's when I

lived in Houston while both Lucy's coworker and good friend.

Last Saturday felt like I was back there in time, again being welcomed as

part of the family and one that has grown, matured, and produced wonderful

offspring. Thank you for including me in dinner with the family, a wonderful

occasion to get to know Lois, David, and an adult Andy. The only thing

missing was the Chairman of the Board."

Love, Sue Meador Rodier

Dear Jan & Family,

I cannot put into words the sadness & sympathy that I would like to express to all of you over your great loss. Memories of our visits with Carl, you & Lucy in Houston bring back such wonderful memories of so much fun & laughter.

Our father thought of Carl as "A man's man"; one that was as competent working on the ranch as he was at being CEO of Quanex. I was impressed by his humbleness; he was so down to earth.

Please know that all of you are in my thought & prayers. May God comfort you in His own special way.

With sincere regrets,

Carol Smiley-Vincenti

I feel as though I have lost a family member, for Carl&Jan Pfeiffer were truly a member of the Quanex/Gulf States Tube family. Carl was a unique CEO and leader of our company,in that his first concern in company matters was for his extended family...his employees.

Those who followed Carl, and those in power of many of America's largest firms today would do well to emulate him. We will miss you Carl, but you will live in our fondest memories.

It is with great sadness that I send my deepest sympathy. Carl was a kind and caring man. It was through my sister, Ruth, that my family had the privilege of meeting Carl and spending some time with the Pfeiffer family. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Martha, Lucy, Mac and Susan

and Jan:

When I describe Carl to my friends,

the words "a really good man" and

a "loving family man" are always

used. Carl's devotion to his

family and grandchildren and all

the vacations you took together was a testament of his love for you.

I enjoyed his sense of humor and

I will miss him. He raised four

children and he was proud of each

one of you. Not only will his

family miss him, but so will others

like myself. He was a good man.

My prayers for you all.

To the family of Carl Pfeiffer:

I have known and worked with Carl through the Steer Auction Committee of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. I can only imagine the loss that you are feeling as Carl was a considerate and caring individual, and always offering a hand out. He went out of his way to welcome me when I was a rookie, and it did not take long to establish a lasting friendship.

I offer my sympathy and prayers to the family.

With kindest regards,

Dear Pfeiffer family:

Please except my deepest sympathy for the passing of Mr. Pfeiffer. I worked for Quanex in the early 80's as their receptionist. Mr. Pfeiffer was always gracious to me. I have often wondered through the years how all were doing. In fact, Mr. Pfeiffer crossed my mind the other day. It's hard losing a loved one so dear. Sincerely-

Mary Woodson

Lucy, I am so sorry for your loss. If ever a man was so loved, it was your Dad. When your Dad first became ill, just listening to you speak of him let me know how deep your love for him is and will always be. Although he is physically gone, cherish the wonderful memories that will be with you always. For I know that he loved you dearly as well.

I have you and your family in my prayers. Love----Mary Woodson
