Gene Hackerman Obituary

GENE COULBOURN HACKERMAN, 84, died Tuesday night at St. David's Hospital with her family by her side. She was a native of Baltimore, and it was there, at Johns Hopkins University, that she met her husband, Norman, to whom she was married for 61 years. The mother of four children, she was devoted to her family and to community and national organizations benefiting women and children. She also served as the First Lady of the University of Texas at Austin during the 1960s and at Rice University from 1970 to 1985. She is survived by her beloved husband, Norman Hackerman; her daughter, Patricia Gale Berry, and her husband, Dr. Michael Berry; her son, Stephen Miles Hackerman, and his wife, Mary; her daughter Sally Griffith Myers, and her husband, Dr. Dennis Myers; and her daughter, Katherine Elizabeth Gaffney; and her grandchildren, Wendy Huberman, Erin Ostboe, Michael Berry, Jennifer Berry, Christopher Hackerman, Colby Hackerman, Clayton Hackerman, Elizabeth Myers, Allison Myers, Katharine Myers, Jennifer Gaffney, and Tyler Gaffney, and her dear friend and companion, Addie Mae Patterson. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, February 2 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar, Austin, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gene Hackerman Scholarship for Women's Athletics at Rice University, c/o Erin Callahan, Rice University, Mailstop 81, P. O.
