Gordon Helton Obituary

GORDON E. HELTON, 82, born on August 20, 1926 in Memphis, TX passed away on Monday, December 8, 2008 in Houston, TX. Gordon served in the Army Air Corps in WWII. He was a leading member of the First United Methodist Churches in Nederland and Lake Jackson, TX. Gordon was a member of the Scottish Rite Lodge 1172 and a volunteer for the Shriner's Children's Hospital and the Flying Fez. Gordon was an active gardener and shared his harvest of vegetables with family, friends and neighbors. In the 1960's, Gordon was the Instrument and Electrical Supervisor at the petrochemical plants in Freeport, Odessa and Port Arthur. In the 1970's and 80's, his work took him to Singapore, Indonesia, Iran, Kuwait, Dubai, Algeria and Saudi Arabia. Gordon was preceded in death by his father, W.A. Helton, and mother, Ora Lee Helton of Amarillo. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marjorie and sons Gregory and Jeffery and daughter Rebecca. A visitation, 2:00-5:00 PM, Thursday, December 11, 2008 with Funeral Services to be held, 10:00 AM, Friday, December 12, 2008 in the Chapel of Miller Funeral Services.
