Joe Jaramillo Obituary

JOE JARAMILLO, 60, of Missouri City, Texas, succumbed to Pancreatic Cancer on April 9, 2008 after a courageous two and half year battle. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends who will never forget his strength and spirit. Joe was born on May 15, 1947 to Jose and Carolina Jaramillo in Corpus Christi, Texas. He graduated from Jeff Davis High School in Houston, Texas, with the class of 1965. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at Sam Houston State University. At Sam Houston, Joe played football and became an active member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Joe graduated in 1969 with a Bachelors' in Business Administration. After graduation, Joe joined the Army Reserves where he served as a MP for six years. On August 6, 1972, Joe married the love of his life, Pamela Kroeger. He worked as a marketing representative for Texaco, Inc. from 1970-1973. He later worked as a lumber broker from 1973-1990. In 1990, Joe became a Farmers Insurance Agent, and that has been his drive for the last 18 years. A devoted Christian, he was an active and supportive member of the First United Methodist Church of Missouri City for the past 30 years. Joe served on many committees and was active in the Fort Bend Community. He was a past member of the Fort Bend Exchange Club, Vice President of Board on Sienna Municipal Utility District No. 3, Past President of Quail Valley Proud, Grand Jury Commissioner, 1998 Candidate for Justice of the Peace, Pct 4, and Scoutmaster. He coached both boys' and girls' sports teams, was a lifetime member of the Fort Bend County Fair, and was a member of the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce and the Sugar Land Rotary. Given his caring and giving nature, his true passion was the Fort Bend County Women's Center, where he served as president of the board in 2003. He was also the Co-Chair for the Capital Campaign Committee, which raised millions of dollars for the development of a new women's center. Joe was preceded in death by his father, Jose Jaramillo, and a sister, Carolina. He is survived by his wife Pam, his mother Carolina Jaramillo and his children, Jeremy and his wife Renee, Melissa Marroquin and her husband Juan, and Charles "Andy" Cook and his wife Karin, his sister Mary Stork and her husband Karl, and his sister Debbie and her fiancé Rhea Wheeler. A memorial service will be held in his honor April 17th at 5:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church in Missouri City, Texas. In keeping with Joe's wishes and passion, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Fort Bend County Women's Center, 14141 Southwest Freeway, Suite 1300, Sugar Land, TX 77478.

Pam,
I am deeply saddened of the word about Joe. I was the Platoon Sergeant for the 317th M.P.
Platoon, the sister platoon of the 318th. We were all close in the two platoons. Morning formations were not something of enjoyment, I remember Joe could always say something to make everyone laugh. Many times he could add humor to an unpleasant situation. Although we haven’t been in the units for many years we will still feel the loss. We were also a “Band of Brothers”. He was a good soldier. He served his country with honor. I was proud to have served with him.

To the Jaramillo Family,
You do not know me, however, I lost my father to pancreatic cancer in March 2007. I know the pain and suffering you and you loved ones feel. I still deal with it each day. This is a cancer that is very brutal and unrecognized by most. It took me a year to do something. That means getting involved. Please take my advise when you are ready. There are two websites your family can look at:
www.pancan.org (this is national)
www.pawsforpancreaticcancer.org (this is the local website). I have joined the local group and it is an amazing support system. We had a walk on April 12th. (My first time to do anything as a volunteer and it was the best thing I have done since I lost my dad). Wonderful people. Please when you are ready, look at the local website I provided above. God bless your family during this time. I can truly say, I understand. Enough said.

My deepest condolences to the Jaramillo family. Joe was an old classmate of mine from '65 Jeff Davis High School. Always enjoyed his smile and good spirit. I'm glad he had a full life. May he rest in peace.

I have known Joe since I was a kid and am thankful for all his assistance thoughout the years for me and my family. I remember him coming over to my house to meet with my dad and I wondered who this man was with the booming voice. Now that I am grown, Nicole and I will miss that voice giving us advice anytime we called. He was always willing to help. Joe will be greatly missed by Nicole and I.

Esteemed Pam and family:

I hardly understand life; and much less, sorrows aplenty. I offer you my most sincere condolences upon the solemn departure of someone we both loved very much. You, as spouse par excellence, the life-long lover of a sweet man; me, as someone who found in Joe a joie-de-vivre beyond comprehension, a fellow with whom I knew of gladness and shared a few moments of gentle comfort in everything that life had to offer albeit short in time.
I hope your heart be replete with tender memories and I express my most sincere wishes for his continued presence in our lives. Know you, my dear, that a great love never goes away - it merely hides in the soft wings of a yellow butterfly...

I was deeply saddened to hear of Joe's passing. I have been with Farmers for many many years and I always enjoyed chatting with him whenever he would answer the phone. He was a kind and honest man and will be missed.

Pam and Family,
I am so sorry to hear about Joe. I did not know he was ill. And, I am so sorry that I did not know. My heart and prayers are with you all. Joe was a good guy, Pam. I was never with yall very much but enough to know that. Again, I am just so sorry. I know he is better now and without pain. As I say to people I love and care about in this situation----there is a new star in the sky for us to see and admire, now.
