John Ebeling Obituary

John Louis Ebeling
09/10/1942 - 09/04/2024
John Louis Ebeling, who was born on the 10th of September 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri, passed away on the 4th of September 2024, in Seabrook, Texas. He lived a life full of love, generosity, and passion, leaving behind a legacy that touched the hearts of many. He was 81 years of age.
John dedicated his career to Enterprise Rent-A-Car, where he worked from 1965 until his retirement as President in 1997. Beyond his professional achievements, John was deeply committed to his community. He served as a lifetime Vice President for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, served on Piney Point Village's City Council for over 25 years, was former Mayor Pro Tem of Piney Point Village, as well as, the Villages Police Commissioner for thirty plus years. His philanthropic spirit was evident in his support for Houston Goodwill Industries, reflecting his desire to give back and make a difference.
John was a devoted family man, adored by his wife, Daryle Lynne, whom he cared for with unwavering dedication throughout their years together.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Ebeling and Marcella Volz; brother, Joe Ebeling III; sister, Marty Eckert; and his first wife, Barbara Ebeling.
He is survived by his wife, Daryle Lynne Ebeling; sister, Margo Brady; daughter, Laura Ebeling Zehl, her husband, Ryan, and their children, Barbara "Bates" and Ryan "Heath"; son, Michael Ebeling and his wife, Melissa; stepson, Braxton Sherrill, his wife Lauren and their children, Quinn, Caroline, and Chloe; and many nieces and nephews.
John loved attending his "Table of Knowledge" lunches with friends at Lakewood Yacht Club, where laughter and conversation flowed freely. Friends and family will fondly remember him welcoming guests aboard his boat with a smile and a personalized styrofoam cup, a simple gesture that encapsulated his loving nature.
John's vibrant personality was characterized by his loving, generous, and sometimes stubborn spirit. He had a unique ability to connect with others and made a lasting impact on everyone he met. His legacy of kindness and leadership will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community.
The funeral service is to be conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on Saturday, the 14th of September, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
Immediately following, all are invited to a reception with the family in the adjacent grand foyer.

I remember John (and Barbara) from our annual Derby Day Parties in Houston and @ the Bay. John was always interested in meeting everyone and often was the center of the group. He also was a leader in the Houston area auto leasing business, and his expert knowledge served him well. It has been a long time but John was always one of the most "positive attitude" people I ever knew. Prayers and thoughts for the family
