I have thought and thought about what I could possibly write about John Marquis, Sr. and his passing. The first thought that came to mind was how incredibly fortunate we were to have met this wonderful, intelligent, charming and pleasant man some 9 years ago. We were welcomed into his wonderful, fun and loving family and spent the next 9 Thanksgiving Holidays with them, which we will cherish and uphold forever. His sister, Patricia and I made a trip every year down to Bellville to the annual antique show and John always went out of his way to indulge us with wonderful food at his ranch after our shopping day. He would always let me feed his cows and let me just sit on his porch to enjoy the beautiful scenery around us. Thank you, John, for these wonderful memories. I know you are looking down at all of us, watching us with laughter and concern. You are missed dearly.

I was deeply saddened to hear of John's passing. I have known John since the days at L.L.Pugh Elementary School, as I was a Denver Harbor (po-dunk) kid, too. We went on to McReynolds Jr. High and then to Stephen F. Austin High School to graduate in the Class of '66. John was always a good friend, a great athlete and fun to be around. I will cherish the memories of our school days and class reunions. John was a terrific person, who will be greatly missed by many. My thoughts and prayers go out to all his family and friends. John is at peace with our Lord and Savior. Put your hope in Jesus who is the way, the truth and the life...all will be made alive in Christ. Our memories will live forever in our hearts. We love you, John.

In the relatively short amount of time which I knew this beloved man, I was priviledged in getting to know him, priviledged in being able to visit him at his ranch, and I was also priviledged in being able to share a few hearty smiles and laughs with this great man. I respect this man more than he probably realized, and it was an absolute honor to have known him. It is with great sadness and confusion that we mark his untimely passing. However, though his house on Earth may not have been completed when his time came, his mansion up in heaven was finished just in time for him. We love you, Uncle John. We will surely miss you.

So sorry to hear of John's passing. He was a great guy. Thoughts and prayers to all his family and friends. Will always remember before school in the boy's gym when John would practice making those "last minute game-winning shots" the length of the court. He was one of the "good guys".

John,
I know it has been ages since we last talked, but Bryce just called to tell me about your dad. I'm so very sorry to hear about your loss. I know there aren't words right now that will make things much better, but April and I wanted to let you know that you are in our prayers.
