John Mockus Obituary

John C. Mockus
1947-2021
John Chester Mockus, amazing father, husband, and accomplished businessman, died at HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe, Texas, on January 6th, 2021 from COVID-19. John is survived by his wife Wendy Bote Mockus, son Michael Nicholas Mockus, daughter Amanda Shannon (Mockus) Bockhop, and three stepdaughters. John has four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. Born on June 17th, 1947 in Port Washington, Wisconsin John is preceded in death by his father John Jerome Mockus, mother Lucille Genevive (Shannon) Mockus, and sister Jackie Louise (Mockus) Melsheimer. John graduated from Port Washington High School in 1965, attended TCPI technical school, and started a computer programming company. In 1978 John moved to the city that would be his home for the next 20 years, Denver, Colorado. While in Denver John helped raise his two kids, and flourished in his career as a senior executive in the high-tech industry. John's career took him around the world to Australia, Canada, China, Columbia, England, France, Indonesia, Ireland, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Scotland, Switzerland - and probably other countries his family can't remember right now. One of John's proudest moments was when he treated his family to a two week vacation to Australia in 1994.
When John wasn't traveling the globe or dominating the boardroom, his passion was driving fast cars, from his green Road Runner in Wisconsin to his Mustang and Stealth in Denver. His hobby for many years was building a 1935 Chevy hot rod. After his kids were grown John moved to Toronto Canada where his kids loved to visit. Next he briefly lived in Georgia and Florida before settling down in Texas in 2007, where a few years later he met the love of his life, Wendy Bote. While in Texas, John helped grow a startup direct sales organization from almost nothing to over 600 people, giving him the opportunity to share his experiences and mentor many aspiring young business leaders.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. He always had a smile on his face when you walked into the office. I will truly miss hearing Good Morning Sue. He was a great talker and had lots of stories. He was a light in the office when he was here. You will be missed! RIP John.
