Josephine Repal Obituary

Josephine Repal
1920-2016
Josephine affectionately known as "Jo", was born in Thurber, Texas on March 11, 1920, went to be with her heavenly Father on April 20, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband George A. Repal, parents Joseph and Mary Kostiha, brothers Joe, Frank, Walter and Steve.
Jo is survived by daughters, Mary Catherine Polk and Georgana Repal, grandson George Thomas Polk, three sisters, Mary Kristynik, Rose Rustejoresky, and Angie Yordanaff; and many nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends.
In 1939, at the age of 19, Jo became a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. Her two daughters, Mary Catherine and Georgana were baptized. Both made their First Communion and were confirmed in this church. Both attended school here from 1st through 8th grades. Jo was homeroom mother too many times to count and officer of Mother Club. She was Chairman of the Country Store for 5 consecutive years at Christ the King Annual Bazaars. She loved this church and the community that thrived within it. Jo was a longstanding member of Christ the King Altar and Rosary Society, an Auxiliary member of Legion of Mary, K.J.Z.T. Society, and also a member of Catholic Daughters of America Court Christ the King #1750.
Jo assisted her husband George when he went into business forming Metrol Corporation. After retiring as secretary at Wilson Elementary School, she worked for Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Jo will be remembered for her devotion to God, Blessed Virgin Mary, and her family. She will also, be remembered for her passion for cooking and her love for sports.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 25, 2016 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 pm in the Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77024. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 11:00 am at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4419 N Main St, Houston, Texas, 77009. Interment will follow in the Garden of Gethsemani at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
Some years back when Jo's husband George, died, Jo brought him to Christ the King Church for his last visit. Now, we will bring her for a final farewell to the church she loved so much with the family who loved her. Due to age and distance to drive, she attended daily mass at St. Rose of Lima; which became her second church home.
Pallbearers are Joe Kostiha, Jr, Emery Pustejovesky, Jr., Edward Pustejovesky, Kirk Hinkson, Parker Pustejovesky, Jerome Kristynik and Aaron Dahl. Honorary pallbearer Jerome Borski.
In lieu of flowers, please make donation to Christ the King Church or Christ the King Altar Society.
Jo's favorite quote, "With each beat of our heart, God is saying I love you. When our heart stops, God wants to say it in person."

Dear Georgana,
I know you want to have all the memories of your mother collected here, and I am sorry it has taken me so long to write, But here it goes!

I am going to miss your mother so much. I have known her all my life, and she always occupied a special place in my heart. And, of course, she was special to all of my family, starting with my Great Aunt Olga Zarr, who gave your mother a home when she first moved to Houston, and continuing with my grandparents Ed and Effie Hruska, my parents Louis and Doris Darilek, and my brother Richard and me. There are so many happy memories of all the good times that my family shared with your mother and your family! It was so wonderful, in recent years, to be able to sit down with your mother and relive some of those times together; all the love and friendship would just come flooding back. What wonderful recollections and what wonderful people!

I am especially going to miss your mother this Christmas, as I will not be able to send her a card from the Basilica, which always prompted a telephone call from her to me to (1)thank me for the card, (2)see how I was doing, and (3) discuss the state of the Astros and the Texans. I am also going to miss taking her to Barbeque Inn when we are in Houston; that was a fun excursion, although I had to learn not to eat too much at the restaurant because she had prepared a lot of dessert - which I had to eat - back at her house.

Your mother was a real force of nature, and the like of her will not be seen again. I admired her for her faith, her energy, her enthusiasm, and her genuine concern for others. I was blessed to have her in my life. And I hope that, in her spare time in heaven when she is not looking out after all of you, she is watching out for me too.

Much love to you all

In 1982, my brother, his wife and I were planning to take a cruise to the Bahamas and Puerto Rico. My brother had asked two other friends to join us, and so I invited Jo to come along with me. She was delighted and accepted right away.
Jo was a lot of fun on the trip and got along with everybody. We went dancing and swimming and shopping mostly for Georgana and my daughter, Steph. By the end of the cruise, Jo knew everyone on board!
Jo was a woman of faith who believed in God and her church. She was a wonderful person, and a good friend. I will miss her.

The world lost a truly great woman in Jo Repal. I will always remember her strong personality, great cooking and appreciation for all people. I am fortunate to have joined Mrs. Repal and her entire family at her recent 95th birthday celebration and it was an honor and a privilege to serve as pallbearer at her funeral. Jo's spirit will continue to live among each one of us blessed by her positive influence.

Email from Sam King

Hi Georgana and Cathy. Sam King here. I received the info regarding your mom from Maryann. Sometimes we take a lot for granted until the reality of life descends upon us. As life goes along we forget those that really helped shape our lives. I would sometimes think of your mom and dad when I played my guitar music over the years. I guess the thought of your dad playing in our home would bring this to mind. The last time I saw your Mother was at my mom's funeral. What a sweetheart she is/was. Always so nice, caring and considerate. One of my mom's best friends.
Gosh we all had great times as youngsters and should be forever aware and thankful for what our parents did for us, including our Catholic Education. In today's time this is becoming a thing of the past. Your mother's dedication to living a Christian life serves as a shining example. You and Cathy have been blessed to have such a long time with your mother in this earthly life. Remember that grief and sorrow are natural but also remember the joy you should have for your mom on leaving us all to go to her final and forever home to be with Jesus. The obituary was very nice to read, bringing back even more memories.

I will be unable to attend the services but will pray that her soul rests in peace. I retired a couple of years ago, selling our home in Alvin and moving to Rockport. We also bought a place in Scottsburg Oregon thereby making us winter Texans and summer Oregonians. My life has been blessed as I approach my 76 birthday

May God Bless you and Cathy and give you all peace and grace during this time of your loss. Take care, Sam

Josephine Repal always had a smile whenever we met and genuinely cared about how we were doing even though we were friends, not family. She was not without her own burdens in life, but still made us feel cared for in her heart. Whether connecting her TV for her beloved sports or getting carpet installed for her she showed appreciation to others in so many ways. Taco Soup or her fresh cake or Thanksgiving together was always special with Josephine. She loved her family and often spoke of George her husband. So we know they are together now watching us all from heaven.

Mrs Repal was a very elegant lady who enjoyed life, and people, to the fullest.
Always smiling, always interested in what you were doing.
She will be missed by myself and many others!

That dedicated church-goer and serious investor morphed into a party animal whenever live music was involved.
Pat and I remember that Christmas party at Gorgana's when she stayed up with us till dawn.
She and Mr Repal (whom we feel we know, although we never had the opportunity to meet him) truly represented that Greatest Generation.
We always felt free to call her at the last minute if we were going to be on that side of town, although we knew better than to interfere with her currently televised sport.
If we live to be 96 we hope we, too, wil be able to renew our driver's licenses.
We will miss you, Josephine.

Will miss that beautiful smile, those twinkling eyes and big, big heart....bigger than life she embraced life, God, friends and family! And now....she can keep an eye on everyone, wishing us to be our best! Oh, and yes, I will miss that fudge and divinity! Mrs. Repal, I was blessed to have you in my life.

We are going to miss Josephine's smiling face and upbeat personality. She was such an inspiration to all who knew her. She was an amazing Christian and prayerful lady. I am so thankful for the chance to reconnect with you and Georgana many years ago. God truly blessed you and I am grateful to have been able to learn and grow from the time spent with you. The trips to the Rodeo were made that much more special because of the visits with you. I enjoyed the many trips to the BBQ Inn and discussing the Astros over a slice of pie/cheesecake. You were always in the know about all things Astros and sometimes I thought you knew what was happening before the sports channels did! You will be greatly missed and forever in my heart

May 3, 2016

You loved chicken night at BBCC and so sorry we didn't make it on a recent Thursday but you can revel in the great time had at your 95th!!!!! It was fantastic plus all the times we had discussing AAPL and our stock holdings, not to mention your surprise Xmas card showing BIG BOY. Lots of great times and memories!

Dear Josephine, whether it was coming to visit you and Georganna, talking about the Houston livestock show, or talking about the Astros with you I could always look forward to it! And knowing you since I was a little kid has been an honor and I will deeply miss you..

Georgana. You have been in my thoughts and prayers all week. When someone is taken suddenly, it is devastating to those left behind. Your mom was wonderful. She always welcomed everyone to her home and she was a great cook. I remember those meals. When things slow down and we can visit, let me know. In the meantime, my prayers are with you and Cathy.

Georgana, you're mom was irrepressible in her graciousness and love always and it shows in every picture of her in the photo gallery. In fact, I'm saving the picture you have here to look at first thing in the morning when I turn on my computer, because seeing her smile every day reminds me of how much I have to smile about every day. What a gift!
