"Herr Bauske" was that ONE teacher who had the kind of experience, knowledge, and ability to make and leave a lifelong impact on those who were lucky enough to be his student. I am the youngest of four children, and come from a long line of child prodigies, my grandfather in particular being a world-renowned linguist (fluent in over 20 languages and dialects), his favorite being German. My oldest brother was Mr. Bauske´s first of us, followed by my older sister, and I began studying under him in eighth grade, making the walk from Arnold Junior High to Cy-Fair (because Arnold only offered French and Spanish classes).
I continued on throughout high school, and by fifth year had earned numerous Texas State German competitions in several areas, poetry reading, acting out German plays, folk dancing (yes, Herr Bauske was also a choreographer and award winning dance instructor, though not in the most popular of genres, one might say), and 3 of my 5 years as his student I was awarded German Student of the Year, one of those years having earned a cumulative grade at the end of the year of 99 out of 100 points (he and I laughed as to why he had such moral and ethical obligations for the 1 point to not have been overlooked)! That was who he was though; a man of great integrity, a phenomenal educator, a role model in the way he turned students required to take a foreign language class, into proudly proficient, if not fluent, speakers of a second language; a language I´ve taught my own children and it is with great sadness to know that Mr. Bauske is gone, but the fun and very often unique memories he was able to create for me, and my sister, brother, and so many other students, are a part of what makes his legacy one that I hope to carry on, and that I am certain to be one of which his wife and son can carry with them, with the honor, dignity, and profound respect he earned throughout his career, and I´m certain long after.
My deepest condolences...

Herr Bauske was one of a kind. He knew how to brighten up the room with a simple smile or joke. I knew that he was someone I could trust with my personal struggles and would offer his best advice. He was more than just a teacher, he was a hero. I will miss you so much and just wanted to say thank you for everything. You were the best.

Mr. Bauske made learning fun. His methods to most would seem unusual or nutty. That was the best way we learned German. He taught my brother in the 80's then he taught myself and my other brother in the 90's. Many of his quirky tunes to remember grammar for German stick with me. Auf Wiedersehen Herr Bauske. Danke für alles!

He was a fun teacher. Always making us laugh. And remembering when he told me about my cross dancing brother for houstonfest.
