KURT LIEBENTHAL passed away on May 19, 2009 following a very long illness. He was born on March 16, 1922 in Bremerhaven, Germany coming to the United States in January 1939, when he fled the Holocaust of Nazi Germany with his parents. He is preceded in death by his father, Alfred Liebenthal, his mother Johanna Heyman Liebenthal and his brother Henry Liebenthal. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Edith Liebenthal, his son Daniel Liebenthal of Houston, his daughter Judith Liebenthal Robinson and son-in-law Glenn Robinson of Seabrook, Texas, his son Gordon Liebenthal, daughter-in-law Martha Atalay Liebenthal and grandsons Trevor, Collin and Eric Liebenthal of Jackson, New Jersey. He lived in New York City for 50 years, moving to Houston, Texas with his wife, Edith, following retirement to live near his children Daniel and Judith. He and his wife traveled extensively until the time of his illness in 2004. The family wishes to thank his kind and compassionate care giver, Mary Thomas, who was with him from the time of his illness until his death. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, June 7 at 1:00 pm at Congregation Shaar Hashalom, 16020 El Camino Real, Houston, TX. I sometimes polish the Liebenthal's stumbling stones in front of the house in which they used to live in Lehe (now Bremerhaven-Lehe) so they are visible again and the former residents are not forgotten. The message on Kurt's sign (i.e. the bear) reads "I polish against oblivion." It is part of a photo project (hashtag "KurtPutzt" on Instagram and X) that keeps the memory of Holocaust / Shoah victims alive.

May their memory be a blessing.
