Letizia Shannon Obituary

Letizia C. Shannon
1933-2016
Letizia C. Shannon passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on March 10, 2016. She was 82 years old when she went to be with the Lord.
Leti was a bright, beautiful and shining light whose strength, love and devotion will be forever remembered. She was born to Joseph and Octavia Cardilli in a house built by her father in Laredo, TX, and was one of six daughters. Leti was a very bright and loving child who started playing the piano at a young age. She earned numerous prestigious awards for her talent. She began her illustrious career with U.S. Customs and retired in 1985. Leti was an accomplished ballroom dancer, prolific painter, enthusiastic gardener, eloquent poet, phenomenal homemaker and animal rights advocate. She celebrated Jesus Christ every day of her life, and inspired all of us to practice mercy and walk humbly in our Faith. She loved to laugh and make others laugh, and she taught us to practice kindness with each other. She was a loyal wife, loving mother, doting grandmother, warm-hearted great-grandmother, loving sister and faithful friend who will be missed dearly. Leti was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Octavia Cardilli and her sisters, Lucy Elliott, Mayne Veutia, Josephine Barton and Mary Mallien. She was a widow to both John Walter Sandera and Dr. William Maurice Shannon of Houston, TX, respectively. Left to honor Leti and remember her love are her loving daughter, Colette Devine and husband, Thomas J. Devine; stepsons, Dr. Michael Shannon & Christopher Shannon; her loving granddaughter, Seleesha Mathews and her husband Jason Mathews; her great-granddaughter, Aria Mathews; her sister, Stella McKinnis, husband Frank McKinnis, her niece Nora Nichols, her nephew Frank McKinnis, niece Linda Looper, her loyal employee of over 36 years Debbie Campbell and her confidant of over 50 years Hattie Mae Martin and devoted employee, Haywood Calvin. She is at peace with our Heavenly Father.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Leti's name to the Houston SPCA.

I am very sorry for your loss. Letizia was a remarkable woman and she will be missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing her. As I read her obituary many wonderful qualities stood out. I appreciated her love for spiritual things as Matthew 5:3 says, " Happy are those conscious of their spiritual need, since the Kingdom of the heavens belongs to them." May our Heavenly father give you the comfort you need to endure this difficult period in your life.

Please accept my deepest sympathies knowing that the God of comfort feels your pain and sorrow. Isaiah 61:1,2 reads "He sent me ( Jesus Christ) to bind up the broken hearted, and to comfort all who mourns.
