Randall Tabor Obituary

Randall "Randy" Tabor
07/24/1940 - 02/03/2026
Randy Tabor, born on July 24, 1940, entered his heavenly home on February 3, 2026, joyfully welcomed into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Randy lived a life rich in love, laughter, service, and faith. He often spoke fondly of his early years with family, his four years of service in the United States Air Force, and the deep joy he found in being a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
In 1973, Randy experienced a life-changing moment that shaped the rest of his days. Sitting in the back row of a church he hadn't planned on attending he prayed a simple but courageous prayer-asking God to give him purpose and to make him a better husband and father. He told the Lord that if Jesus could do that, he would surrender his life to Him. God answered that prayer, and from that moment forward, Randy lived with a sincere desire to be obedient to the Lord and to bring Him glory.
That calling led Randy from a successful career with Anheuser-Busch and the Miller Brewing Company into ministry among the hurting and homeless. He began serving at a Rescue Mission in Syracuse, New York, where God placed a deep love in his heart for men and women seeking refuge, restoration, and hope. Six years later, Randy became Executive Director of a small mission in Schenectady, New York, serving faithfully for eight years. He was then called to Houston, Texas, where he served as President and CEO of Star of Hope Mission for 20 years, touching countless lives before retiring in 2010.
Though Randy would humbly say that his journey of serving the homeless came with both challenges and blessings, his greatest earthly joy was his family. He was deeply proud of his four sons and their wives-Gregory and De, Andrew and Joyce, Douglas and Sarah, and Lowen and Christy-and delighted in his eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immeasurable happiness.
Randy's life stands as a testimony of God's redeeming grace, a willing heart, and a life fully surrendered to Christ. While he will be deeply missed, we rejoice in the assurance that he is now home, hearing the words he lived for: "Well done, good and faithful servant."
A celebration of Randy's life will be held on February 28, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Grace Presbyterian Church, 10221 Ella Lee Ln. in Houston. A reception will follow at the church.

Randy Tabor embodied so many wonderful qualities of a husband, father, friend, and most importantly, a man of God. His presence in my life has been so powerful that words would be simply inadequate to express my gratitude for his mentorship, counsel, and love over three+ decades.

Randy was a gentle man with an indomitable spirit, always more interested in other peoples´ acknowledgements than his own. While an accomplished servant leader, he carried the notions of perseverance, courage, and commitment beyond his career. I think people sometimes forgot the impact that Randy had in the Houston community. But perhaps that´s because the qualities he possessed were so elusive, and in trying so hard to enhance the qualities of others, he purposely left himself behind. His passion to succeed and to "do the right thing" won him admirers and insured his success. He conveyed sincerity in everything that he did and sought out win/win scenarios even when they were not particularly obvious.

Randy was a class act who always treated people with dignity and respect, regardless of their walk in life. It is simply through the constructive manner in which he lived life that he had the greatest impact upon others. Randy took the time to notice the little things that made life special, and in doing so, made others' feel special as well.

He was a listener, a giver, a responder, a silent doer - a friend to many.

Marriage is one of the true gifts in life. Randy´s commitment as a husband was about walking in faith, caring, and honoring Kathy, while loving and accepting her unconditionally. His love for Kathy mirrored the love that Christ has for the Church in a way that was selfless and sacrificial. Randy created a lasting legacy for his children and grandchildren. "The righteous man leads a blameless life; blessed are his children after him." Proverbs 20:7

To Randy´s son´s: Whenever you have a problem, ask yourself, "What would Dad want me to do?" You will always make the right decision.

Heaven has just been blessed by the presence of our dear friend, Randy Tabor.

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me. In my Father´s house there are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going." John 4:1-4

Randy prized his family and humbled himself before God and man. As I continue in life, I will find myself looking back to the examples that he set and will strive to imitate them.
