Ronald Robins Obituary

Ronald Alan Robins
11/12/1946 - 03/16/2024
Dr. Ronald Alan Robins died peacefully on March 16 at the age of 77. Ronnie was born on November 12, 1946, in Houston, Texas, where he cultivated lifelong friendships both in his personal and professional relationships. Ronnie loved life and lived by high ethical standards to work hard, accept people for who they are, and be respectful of the beliefs and opinions of others. He valued family, education, trustworthiness, self-reliance, and friendship. He embraced the concept of living a good life to its fullest. In all matters, Ronnie was all in. An honors graduate of San Jacinto High School (Class of 1963), he was regarded as a talented, competitive athlete, both as a swimmer and linebacker for his high school team. Throughout his life, he continued to love sports and the outdoors, both as an enthusiastic spectator and an avid hunter and fisherman.
After graduating from high school, Ronnie attended Tulane University in New Orleans, LA, where he was an active member of Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity. After college, he matriculated to the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine. Returning to Houston after graduation, he earned a reputation as an accomplished podiatrist and astute business investor. Ronnie was partners with his cousin Drew Robins at Continental Silverline Products, a wholesale mattress manufacturing company that was started by Ronnie and Drew's fathers over seventy years ago. Respected and loved by his patients, Ronnie was in private practice at the same location in Spring Branch and for over 40 years while on staff at Spring Branch Hospital and Memorial Hermann-Memorial City Hospital. A skilled and compassionate doctor, Ronnie generously mentored countless new doctors in the field of podiatry and willingly responded to the needs of others, during and beyond office hours. His patients, family, and friends respected his sound advice and unwavering advocacy, whether in the office, in surgery, or by their bedsides where he quietly comforted them and demonstrated his genuine empathy and concern.
With him through it all was his devoted wife Jackie, who shared his love of adventure. Together, they made friends and saw the world. Jackie's happy and easy-going personality, paired with Ronnie's intellect, wit, and irreverence ensured they never met a stranger. When they weren't traveling and making new friends, Jackie and Ronnie were spending time with family, friends and loved ones. A life-long Houstonian, Ronnie had deep roots and relationships throughout the community, many of which lasted his lifetime.
Preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Sylvia Robins, Ronnie is survived by his beloved wife, Jackie Fontenot Robins; son, Kevin Robins and his wife Sara; sisters Barbara Friedman and Linda Robins; grandchildren Eva Elyse Robins and Rhett Robins; cousin Drew Robins and his wife Edna; sister-in-law Cassie McCain and her husband Bill; and sister-in-law Mary Gayle Fontenot.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Christopher Logothetis and MD Anderson Cancer Center for their care and support, as well as the team at the Concierge Clinicians of Houston who provided such loving care to Ronnie at the end of his life. According to his wishes, Ronnie's family gathered for a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Gulf Coast Conservation Association, CCA Texas, 6919 Portwest Drive, Suite 100, Houston, TX 77024, or the charity of your choice.

Just heard about Dr Robins passing. So sorry to hear. He was such a delightful doctor to visit and knew him as a patient for more than 30 years. Wish my deepest sympathies and condolences to the family. When he retired I really missed him and seeing all his CCA pictures and visiting with him. I'm just seeing this. Ms. Jackie and family, you have my deepest condolences. I worked for Dr. Robins as a Medical Assistant for 2 years back in 1999ish. He was the first podiatrist I worked for and gave me so much knowledge and insight in the Podiatry world. He was always so much fun and made us laugh all the time. But was stern when he needed to. Thank you Dr. Robin's for the opportunity. You will be missed.

I have known Ronnie since I started working in podiatry. I was 17 years old. What a nice guy he was to me and everyone he came in touch with. I worked for him for 3 years after one of his best friends, Sheldon Goren, died.
I knew this day was coming. However way too soon. Peace be you Jackie and the family and friends. Prayers for his soul. You won't be forgotten. Love, Pam

We met in the ZBT Pledge Class at Tulane in the late Summer of 1964 - we started that semester with 40 or so fun-loving pledges and ended the semester with 31 or so initiates (remember, it was the last fall term without a draft into the Viet Nam War). We spent a lot of time together before Ronnie left NOLA. I have nothing but fond memories of time spent with him.

Ronnie always made us laugh, and cared so much more about hearing about me and my family than talking about himself. We enjoyed fishing numerous times around Florida. Not always catching, but laughing and enjoying stories together. He will forever be in my heart and taught me much about life. All our love with you my friend.

Ronnie was my first love! I was 2 and he was 3...and he totally ignored me until I pushed him down the stair at his house! Luckily we both survived, he was not badly injured and I escaped Reform School! I have known him all of my life and know this world was better with him in it. His loss will be felt by so many of us, may his memory be a blessing.

Ronnie always had a very unique sense of humor that made his personality one of a kind. I remember the first time that I met him. It was at a restaurant for lunch and a family gathering as well. At the end, pictures of the group at the table were being taken and he leaned over to tell me to duck out of the photo, if I didn´t plan on sticking around. His clever level of humor was a big part of who he was.

Fishing with Ronnie was a treat. It was such a pleasure to spend time with him in the outdoors. In my opinion, he truly seemed to be in his natural element and his affection for those he shared it with were better people for his wise words shared on the water.

To know him was to understand the way he communicates and to appreciate him for his kind heart. I feel blessed to have had in my life. Thank you, Ronnie. RIP.

Jackie & Kevin,

I am so sad to have lost my good friend Ronnie. He was such a loyal friend and a source comfort for me during trying times. I was so fortunate that Ronnie agreed to be my son's godfather 30 years ago. While most people consider that role ceremonial, Ronnie took that responsibility seriously and was very active in my son's life during his formative years. For that, I'm eternally grateful.

With time I hope your pain eases and you will smile when thinking of him. He was a special guy.
