The Cravens used to love to stop by the original Dons in Lafayette and thought of them when it closed for good this spring. They would drive through Lafayette on way to and from TN back in time. May they Rest In Peace. Miss them.

Dear Cravens Family,

After having a wonderful Thanksgiving break with family at Cook's Branch near Montgomery, I bought the Sunday Chronicle to read on my flight back to San Diego. Somehow the obituary for my father's dear friend and tennis partner for decades was there in front of me although I never read the obituary section. It just seemed to me a powerful message that I was supposed to dwell upon. Taking off from Houston in a cold drizzle I felt both warmth and a sense of love from a friendship that endured so long between two such wonderful people. As a youth and teen I enjoyed watching Ruddy and George outfox and befuddle their opponents day after day, week after week, year after year. Wonderful, inspiring, remarkable. I know my father cherished the shared moments with his great friend Ruddy and certainly many of us greatly appreciated Ruddy's leadership at the Houston Racquet Club.

I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Ruddy and my heart goes out to the family as you gathered for Thanksgiving with the sad reality as part of your celebration. Even though the cold rain and storm clouds hung heavy, I trust the spirit and love of my father's dear friend Ruddy warmed the family and comforted them in their loss.

On behalf of the Mitchell family and myself, I convey my deepest condolences to the Cravens family in this time of loss.

Sincerely,
Greg Mitchell

My heartfelt condolences to his family. I worked briefly at Cravens and Warren in the 80's. Mr. Cravens was such a pleasure to be around.

Although Mr. Cravens had retired by the time I came to work at Cravens Warren in 1989, he still had an office there. He was one of the kindest, most generous men I've ever met. I'll remember his kind nature and warm smile always. May you find comfort and peace during this time.
