Spencer Golvach Obituary

Spencer Paul Golvach
1989-2015
Spencer Paul Golvach
Our beautiful baby boy was taken from us suddenly on January 31, 2015.
Spencer was born in Houston, Texas on September 27, 1989 and although only with us for a short time, he made a big impact on those who knew him with his adventurous spirit, great sense of humor, and kind heart.
Spencer loved music and was the bass player in two bands, The Dead Revolt and Von Hindenburg. His love for music and people translated to his career, where he was the small business owner of Spencer's Guitar Shop. In addition to running a small business, he worked full time at Fulfill Plus.
Spencer enjoyed being around people of all ages and had a diverse group of friends that enriched his life and for them we are grateful.
Spencer also enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his family and always wanted the best for them.
Spencer was preceded in death by his grandparents Paul and Helen Golvach and Phil and Donna Riehle.
Spencer is survived by his father Dan Golvach, his mother Julie Golvach, brother and sister-in-law Christopher and Jennifer Doerre and niece Elizabeth and nephew William, and brother Dylan Golvach. Also, aunts and uncles Steve, Mitch and wife Brenda, Jack and wife Shelly, Jim, Joe and wife Gretchen, Nikki and husband Jake along with many cousins and other extended family. Spencer also had a wonderful girlfriend who he looked forward to spending many more years with, Sara Whittemore.
Spencer was deeply loved and truly liked…and now will be greatly missed until we see him again in Heaven.
Visitation is at Woodlawn Funeral Home & Cemetery, 1101 Antoine Dr., Houston, TX 77055 on Thursday, February 5, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 pm.
Memorial Service is at The Church of St. John The Divine, 2450 River Oaks Blvd., Houston, TX 77019 on Friday, February 6, 2015 at 5:00 pm. Prior to the memorial service, the family will have gathered at Woodlawn Garden of Memories to lay Spencer to rest.

What else can be said about a man that was so many things to so many people...To me he was a best friend and another one of my guitar heroes. Spencer wasn't even half my age but I always admired him and never thought of him as younger than me. He always had a way of making everyone in his shop feel special and comfortable. I will miss him everyday for the rest of my life. We worked together, built projects at the shop together and hung out together listening to his dad play at gigs. Thanks Spence for teaching me how to smile. I'll never forget arm wrestling with you and Ethan, the last time I saw you or talking to you on the phone your last day here on earth. You called me because you were concerned about my health...that's the kind of guy you were...Julie and Dan had a very special son that now is with God...I sure hope I see you again someday, save me seat next to you!

I am so deeply sorry for all of the family and friends of Spencer. I just learned of this tragedy as I passed an automotive billboard sign honoring Spencer's memory. I did not know him personally, but met him and Dylan long ago when they were just little boys. I spent a couple years working with Dan in "The Hooligans" and know how much he loved his boys, and know what a good man he is. Spencer was just a year younger than my son. I cannot even imagine the pain and emotions. May he rest in peace, and my prayers and heart go out to all who loved him.

Julie,

Mark and I are so sorry for your loss. I remember when I first met you in the late 90's, Spencer would come with you to the Board meetings and he was always such a well behaved child. Growing up that never changed. He was a well mannered, well respected and loving individual. What a man he turned out to be. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Dan and the entire family. I know God called home a perfect angel.

Spencer was incredible as a little boy - and grew up to change lives of those around him. He's blessing heaven now with his music and smile. God's peace to you all.

We are very sorry to hear of this. I had followed that story in the news and when I saw the name Goldvach the next day I thought of Dan and Dylan and hoped it wasn't their family. Our children went to Gleason with Dylan and I remember Dan from the Zen Archer days. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

So sorry for your loss. Spencer was one of the nicest people I've ever met. He opened his shop so my son's band could perform a concert to benefit an Eagle Scout project. And he also setup my guitar, which still plays perfectly. He will be missed by man, many people.

Spencer was my stepson since before the age of 2 years old. He was my little helper after his younger brother, Dylan, was born. I could have never managed without him. I had a 2-seater baby jogger and Spencer kept Dylan entertained for those 5 miles without ever complaining. He even decided upon Dylan's middle name. They shared a room for many years with bunk beds and he always watched after his baby brother. That is just the kind of person he was. He was just happy. He never complained. We called him Tweety Bird because of that blonde hair and big green eyes and we called Dylan Taz. They both fit the bill, but Spencer imparted so much of his gentleness upon Dylan that Dylan can no longer be characterized as Taz. I say Spencer was gentle, but he wasn't weak. He was a very strong and intelligent man.

There were three brothers on our side of the family and I am proud that they are/were the best of friends and loved each other dearly. They rarely, if ever, fought and if they did it was over quickly. They were there for each other through the best and worst times. The two remaining brothers are devastated, but I'm sure will carry a piece of Spencer with them forever.

I hear a lot that Spencer was a musician. Yes, he was and a very talented one, but he was so much more than that. He was what I would call a Renaissance man. He loved eclectic music, literature, Star Wars. He loved Led Zeppelin, The Clash, The Beatles, and Pink Floyd, but mainly he loved independent artists like he, his brother and George were. He had that entrepreneurial spirit opening up his own business in his very early twenties. He went to college. He was a very hard worker holding down a full-time outside job while still running his business. He loved to be friends and talk to people of all ages. He loved to backpack and climb and keep his body in shape. The thing I remember most is that he was a tinkerer. He loved to take apart and "fix" anything mechanical or electronic when he was a little boy. He got much better at it as he got older :-) and was one of the best at repairing musical instruments and equipment.

Spencer was a sweet soul, but he was an old soul. He did so much in his short time here on earth and left a mark on so many people. He left an impression upon me and he has forever changed my son, Dylan, for the better.

I grieve with and for Julie, Dan, Chris, Dylan and Sara along with so many others. They are devastated, but this angel-boy, Spencer, will always be with all of us. As John Lennon wrote, Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful Boy.

I will never forget you and will always love you, Spence.

My oldest son Darryl now 16 used to come into the Guitar Shop to take lessons from Dan. At the time Darryl was 11 and many times his younger brother then 8 was in tow. Spencer wasn't just courteous as a good employee should be but he took a genuine interest in what my boys told him. I was heart broken to hear of this great loss to Dan and his family. My boys still remember Spencer as the cool guy behind the counter that talked about Metroid with them and made them feel like he was happy to see them every time we walked in the door. My prayers are with the family and I cannot express how sad I am to hear of such an enormous loss to our communtiy and everyone that knew him.

The world lost a good man when Spencer was taken from here. He loved his mom and dad so much. He was thoughtful and respectful and will be missed by all that ever met him. I, for one, am grateful to have known such a good, kind, loving and talented young man, who worked hard to be successful and make a mark in the world. He definitely left this world a better place.

I did not know Spencer personally, but he was a friend of my daughter's, and she described him as the kindest person she ever knew. Everything I have read since then, certainly supports this. To his parents, my heart breaks for your loss. It's the unimaginable for all parents. God bless you all and may His abiding grace bring you comfort. Spencer, well done good and faithful servant.
