Scott Pierce Thompson

1988 - 2024

Boise - Scott Pierce Thompson was born in Roseville, California, on July 17, 1988. When the doctor delivered Scott, he placed his newborn foot in the footprint box of the Vital Statistics page. His feet were well over the edge of the box on both ends. The doctor declared, "He will be 7 feet tall." We were skeptical, but by age 16, Scott hit that mark. Being 7 feet tall defined Scott's life as a blessing and a curse in many ways. Scott was always considerate with the constant comments about his height.

At an early age, basketball became his passion. Because of his height, high expectations were placed on him. Scott constantly strove to meet these expectations. He played for Mountain View High School and elite teams in Boise and Seattle. His teams played in tournaments around the country, and he was invited to attend the Nike All-American Showcase and NBA Players Camp. Scott was aggressively recruited by college programs and eventually decided that Santa Clara University was the right fit for him. Unfortunately, during his junior year, he experienced heart problems and was forced to retire from basketball.

After college, he returned to Boise and started an online business. He was very successful in buying at auction and reselling all types of gear. He recently became a certified MA and was interested in helping others as so many had helped him.

Scott loved to travel. He enjoyed many cruises and trips to Europe with his family. He also spent time in Mexico and Hawaii with his high school friends and in Spain with his college friends. Hawaii, however, was his favorite destination. He loved SCUBA diving and paddle boarding and was always seeking out sharks. He loved animals of all sorts, Scott was fond of his four nephews and niece and always took time to be around them.

Scott had many medical disorders throughout his life. He suffered from multiple injuries and numerous surgeries due to his height and his life in very physically competitive sports. He fought hard to overcome his difficulties but ultimately lost the struggle. However, he will be remembered as an exceptional, kind, generous, and companionate person.

Scott is survived by his parents, Janet (Tate) and Randall (Randy) Thompson; his sisters, Jenn (Chris) Bowman and Cari (Henry) Vogler; his grandparents, Barbara Tate and Fred Thompson; and numerous aunts and uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews.

His family wishes to thank all the friends, teachers, coaches, medical professionals, and recovery services that positively impacted his life. If you wish to make a charitable contribution in Scott's honor, the family suggests the Lee Peskey Center of Boise or the Idaho Humane Society. There will be a private family memorial at a later date.
