Bessie Winn Obituary

Bessie Viola (Flick) Winn Bessie Viola (Flick) Winn passed away on Sept. 21, 2007. Bessie was born July 19, 1911 in Bedford, Iowa to Pearl and Arthur Flick. She was the second of seven siblings. Her early years and memories are of growing up on the family farm in Iowa and then moving out west to a log cabin in Tonasket, Wash. near Canada. After a year on a "dry farm", no rain, no crops, they returned to Iowa. They lived and farmed in Redding, Iowa until 1928 when they moved to Boise. Bessie's stories of being poor but happy, working hard but always laughing were endless. Everyone had a nickname (Pudge, Boog, uncle Ding, Aunt G, Beanie, & Toby). Every mishap or problem had a funny story. Imagine your father and uncle buying model T's to drive out west without knowing how to stop or turn the lights on them, but learning along the way. Bessie married Lee Winn on Sept. 10, 1930. They had two children, Truman and Colleen. Bessie & Lee owned and managed numerous businesses and restaurants in Idaho until their retirement in 1953. They then ranched in Dry Creek and Lowman with their children and grandchildren and spent 26 years going to Mexico each winter. Many of us have some of our most favorite memories at Bessie and Lee's cabin in Lowman. The food, the stories, the hunting/fishing & hiking, all were much simpler and happier times. Bessie enjoyed working and keeping busy. She loved cooking for a houseful and cherished having people over to see her antiques. While working Bessie was always humming, singing a song to herself, reciting a funny verse or telling something funny about herself that she had just done or had just remembered doing. Bessie was preceded in death by her husband Lee, her son Truman, her parents and siblings Cullen, Vilas, Orpha Harvey, Bertha Grant, Bernice Turner and her granddaughter Tina Winn. She is survived by her daughter & son-in-law Colleen & Choch Lizaso, grandchildren Vince & Jan Lizaso, Cecil & Diana Lizaso, Beni & Aitor Amuchastegui, Paul & Rena Winn, great-grandchildren, Shawna (Travis) Winn, Paul Michael Winn, Angie Lizaso, Ramon (Camille) Lizaso, Angie (Pete) Stites, Billy Weisenberger, Matt Wolf, Mikel & Dioni Amuchastegui, great-great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Jayson, Hailie, Marrisa, & Aiden. Her sister Jackie Wilcomb, sister-in-laws Verla Flick & Gael Winn, & numerous nephews and nieces. Per Bessie's request there will be no service. We would like to have a gathering of friends and family to share memories and stories of Bessie and the good old days. We will meet at 12 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007 at the home of Aitor and Beni Amuchastegui, 8355 W. Donnybrook, Boise. Please RSVP if you can attend 208-323-0920.
