C. Wartman Obituary

C. Everne "Vern" Wartman 1936-2009 Charles Everne "Vern" Wartman, a lifelong resident of the Boise/Meridian area died Sept. 27, 2009 following a brief but courageous battle with brain cancer. His death mirrored his life, within his faith in God and his strong connection with family. Vern was born on Sept. 29, 1936 to Charles Guy and Dorothy M. Sutton Wartman. He lived his life and raised his family on the same property his grandparents homesteaded and raised their four boys. His children were raised learning the values of hard work, responsibility, commitment, Christian love, and family on this very same land. Vern attended Cole Elementary, South Junior High, and graduated from Boise High school in 1954. Following high school, Vern chose to forgo a professional baseball career and a scholarship to Idaho State University to enter the work force as a heavy equipment operator. Vern married Lillian Hope in 1957 and raised their four children together until 1976. At work, he followed the heavy construction trade through 1963, when he was hired on at the Idaho Power Company. He worked at Idaho Power in a variety of operational and managerial roles. "Hoss," as he was known at the company, was responsible for designing and building several tools and electric line devices that are still in use today. He retired with 32 years of service in 1995. Vern did not reserve his talents for only his vocation; he was an avid metal worker, artist, machinist, mechanic, and inventor. He used these skills for fun as a hobby; but also lent them to friends and family in a variety of helpful ways. Vern was very active early in his children's school PTA efforts, Boy Scouts, Junior Achievement, church camps, and athletic endeavors; and was always involved in friends' and families' projects as his family grew. He was active in the motor racing scene, adding his knowledge and support to his son's and others' racing endeavors. As farming of the original homestead became prohibitive due to surrounding development and irrigation restrictions; the property was sold, subdivided, and developed. Vern and his wife Mary Ann kept a small piece of the homestead where the original farm house had once stood, to build their own home. The remaining development was named "Charleston Place" in honor of Vern's grandfather and the four consecutive generations to bear the "Charles" forename. Vern is survived by his wife of 21 years and best friend Mary Ann, brother Eugene (wife Pat) from Emmett, son Kevin Everne (Rolene), son Kirk Charles (Susan), daughter Kristin J. Ferguson (Steve), all from Boise and son Kraig Steven (Ann) from Kuna. He also has two stepchildren Janna Lufkin (Kent) and Daniel Anduiza who survive him. Vern also leaves seven grandchildren; Krystal (Jason), Kyler (Angelica), Kourtney, Kayla, Korban, Kameron, and Aubree, as well as two step-grandchildren Kate and Nate to carry on his legacy. He also has several nieces and nephews. There will be no formal funeral or graveside services, but the family is holding a celebration of Vern's life at The Hey Barn Events Center, 9107 W. McMillan Road Nampa, ID, on Friday Oct. 2, 2009 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Anyone that Vern's life touched is invited to come and participate in this event. Log on to http://heybarneventcenter.com/directions_4.html for a map and/or directions. Donations can be made in Vern's name to the Boise Rescue Mission, Meals on Wheels or a charity of your choice. Please no flowers. Condolences for the family may be submitted online at www.CloverdaleFuneralHome.com.

I met Vern Wartman when he was supervising a fence building job my brother and I did in the subdivision near his home. Vern drove up one day in his red Chevy and started laughing at me. He had his hand on his brow and couldnt stop laughing. He said "I will sell this truck to your brother so you can haul pickets in a real work truck, not a BMW with boards sticking out the sunroof and windows! Girl, you need a truck!" Whenever I saw him after that he cracked up and asked me "What are you hauling today, kid?" My brother did buy his truck, but I kept my BMW for fence jobs. He had such a kind heart and was such a hard worker- I had to stay on my toes when he was around so I wouldn't get caught goofing off. He will always stay in my memory as such a hot barbeque chef he could melt a deck. Amazing man. Amazing legacy. He will be missed.

Vern and I became friends many years ago in our work related jobs. He poked fun at me from being from the South and I retaliated. Vern was a good man and will be missed.

Dear Kevin, Kirk, Kris, Kraig and Aunt Maryanne.
I was ok until I saw Uncle Everne's picture. I hope you all are doing the best you can. I am sad to think that I will never see him again, but I am happy in the knowledge that he is no longer suffering and is in a better place. I really wish I could be there for the celebration of his life. I will tell you that my heart will be with all of you. I loved Uncle Everne very much, as I do all of you. I hope your day of celebration is a good one. Uncle Everne if you are reading this I love you and will miss you very much. Take care of yourself.

Love,

Dear Maryanne and family,
I knew Hoss as a fellow employee for over 30 years. We never worked directly together, but we crossed paths many times. I had respect for Hoss the first time we met and the respect grew more with time. We had many of the same interests and we were three months apart in age. I will always have only good memories of Hoss.

Maryanne,
When Jim and I saw you at St. Lukes we had no idea that Hoss was so ill. He was a wonderful man and will be missed by many.

Our thought and prayers are with you and your family. May he rest in peace.

Our heart and Prayers go out to Vern's Family. He truely will be missed and remembered Always

Letter from Heaven

To my dearest family some things I'd like to say
But first of all to let you know that I arrived today,
I'm writing this from Heaven. Here I shall dwell with God above
Here, there's no more tears of sadness. Here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight
Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through
God picked me up and hugged me and He said "I welcome you,
It's good to have you back again,
you were missed while you were gone,
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly, you are part of my plan
There's so much that we have to do to help our mortal man."
God gave me a fist of things that he wished for me to do
And foremost on the list was to watch and care for you
And when you lie in bed at night, the days chores put to flight
God and I are closest to you . . in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth and all those loving years
Because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears
But do not be afraid to cry, it does relieve the pain
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
1 wish that I could tell you all that God has planned
If I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand
But one thing is for certain though my life on earth is o'er
I'm closer to you now than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb
But together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
When you're walking down the street and you've got me on your mind
I'm walking in your footsteps, only half a step behind
And when it's time for you to go . . from that body to be free
Remember you're not going . . you're just coming here to me.
