Calvin Brant Obituary

Calvin C. Brant
1925-2014
Calvin (Bud) Brant, 88, passed away, January 13, 2014 from complications of a stroke.
Cal was born on July 12, 1925 to Albert and Pearl Brant in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He moved, with his family, to Homedale, Idaho in 1935. While attending Homedale High School, he excelled in all sports but he had a passion for baseball with aspirations of becoming a professional baseball player someday. He also met the love of his life, Lillian. He was the football quarterback and she was the drum majorette. Upon his 18th birthday, he received notice from the Draft Board for induction into the U.S. Army. Two days prior to his leaving for the army, he and Lillian were married on Nov. 8, 1943. They celebrated 70 years of marriage on Nov. 8, 2013.
Cal served the next three years with the U.S. Army, including 13 months in the European Theatre. After being discharged, he went onto attend several business schools. The following 2 years were spent teaching accounting and bookkeeping, when he took what he thought would be a temporary position at the Idaho First National Bank. This position turned into a forty year career where he started as a bookkeeper and ended his career as Vice President of Trust Branch Managers.
Among some of Cal's activities were Boise Elks, President of Pioneer Toastmasters, Bench Lions Club, Boise Estate Planning Council and Chairman of United Fund Speakers Bureau.
Cal and Lillian had a daughter, Vickie, and a son, Dennis.
Cal enjoyed his time with his family and good friends. One of the high points of his life was building a cabin in Lowman, Idaho. Many special memories were made and wonderful stories told, as he gathered family and friends around the campfire. He loved to golf, hunt, fish and care for his two horses, Pete and Saber. He enjoyed his Riding Club and his monthly trail rides. Cal was a Banker by trade and a Cowboy at heart.
Cal will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Lillian, daughter Vickie Collins (Roger), son, Dennis and his six grandchildren, Laurie Collins, Kristi Collins, Kelli Bryant (Joe), Brooke Collins (Chris), Ryan Brant (Kami), Lesley Brant (Dustin). He is also survived by 8 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 18th at the Marsing-Homedale Cemetery. A celebration of his life will follow at the Basque Center in Homedale. Condolences can be made at www.flahifffuneralchapel.com

So sorry for your loss, Aunt Lillian, Dennis and Vickie. Whenever we visited my parents in Idaho and got to see you all, I remember Uncle Bud always smiling and joking with us. He always said something to make us laugh. And he made it so much fun for Marinda to come over and ride the horses when she was a kid. We all have many fond memories of Uncle Bud and he will be missed.

When you've known someone your whole life, you form certain opinions about them. Sometimes, once in a very great while, these opinions forge a template which becomes a shining example of how you would like to live your life, and how you would like others to perceive you.

My Uncle Bud is such a pillar for me. When I think of the words to describe him, these are a few that come to mind.
Love. Joy. Peace. Patience. Kindness. Goodness. Faithfulness. Gentleness. Resolve.

You need only to look at his wife of 70 years, my Aunt Lillian, to see the reflection of these virtues.

These virtues are the foundation stones of his spirit, and have been admired by many. But for me, they are the guiding Light of my soul by which I strive to live my life.

Thank you for these gifts Uncle Bud. The world is a better place because you were in it.

Rest in Peace my sweet Uncle.
Albert (Pogo) Brant

Aunt Lillian, Vicki and Dennis: I am so sorry to hear of Uncle Bud's passing. I will never forget our summer vacations in Lowman by the campfires and all the fun games such as hearing the horseshoes clank, playing darts, and the laughter that went along with our family gatherings.
Beautiful memories. The heavens gained another Angel. What a reunion it must be. Love you all. You are in my prayers.

It was an honor to know "Bud." I think about him often. I still remember riding his horse in the back yard with my son Jacob. Seems like yesterday! My heart goes out to you Lillian.

It was a privilege to be a neighbor and an honor to be in the friendship of Cal Brant. I especially think of the times we rode out into the nearby desert, Cal usually on Pete, I on my mare, Pete's mom. Cal would talk about life, his observations, discoveries he picked up along the way. Subtle lessons offered. Never judgmental. Never preachy. Always gentle. Always kind. Just relating things he had learned—to take or leave as I saw fit. Many of those lessons have stayed with me as I live and learn each day. The world said good bye to a good man this week. Lillian, Vicki, Dennis, and families, you are in our thoughts and prayers

We are so very sorry to hear of your loss. Cal was a great guy, and a close friend of my parents. I will always remember the Saturday night birthday dinners we got to go to, with the Lowman group. The fishing trip with Cal and my dad in Oregon, and Cal grilling the steaks for dinner.
Cal and George liked to come out to Dads garden in Kuna, and pick tomatoes.
I hope Mom and Dad were there to welcome Cal.

Aunt Lillian, Dennis and Vicky sorry to hear about the Passing of my Dear uncle Bud... Joyce and I got to visit him on Sunday about four weeks ago and had a good conversation with him and even talked about things of The Lord... He seemed to be in good spirits at the time and very well taken care of at the VA facility. Uncle Bud had a profound and positive influence on me when growing up here in Idaho... going fishing with him and hunting and so forth and we all remember the camping adventures! And I'll always remember when he took me horseback riding on the Oregon Trail somewhere around 1996. Larry Smith

Cal and Lillian, special friends of our Mom and holding a special place in the hearts of our family. Good friend & co-worker, sharing laughter and tears through the years with Idaho First National and into retirement years. Thank you for sharing your life with Mom and our family.

It is with so much sadness to hear of Cal's passing. Even though it has been years since I have had any contact with the family, some of my fondest memories are of the family camping trips and Buckwheat pancakes. Please accept my hugs and prayers. D'on Gustaves Waltermire

Uncle Bud, so memories all so great. Spending the night at your house and waking up, you were always reading the paper. Watching you trim the hedges on the house on Abbs street. How you looked at Aunt Lillian always with love. Driving the ski boat, watching out for the kids, always taking care of the family, seeing you at the bank and realizing how important you were to more people than just me and your family. Watching you on your horse with dad and how much you two enjoyed each other. Even in the hospital and you being concerned about everyone. You will continued to be highly regarded to me. I love you.
