Doris Alzola Obituary

Doris Alzola
1926-2012
Doris Alzola, 86, of Meridian, formerly of Mountain Home, passed away on November 22, 2012, at a Boise hospital. A viewing will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2012, from 4:00pm until the 6:00pm Rosary at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am, on Friday, November 30, 2012, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church and burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
Doris was born in Paul, Idaho, on April 19, 1926, to Eugene and Zua Hunt. The family moved to a farm near Mountain Home in 1932. She worked on the farm with her parents, three brothers and four sisters and remembers going to school in a horse drawn wagon. She always loved school and graduated from Mountain Home High School in 1944.
After graduation, Doris worked at First Security Bank. She married Martin Alzola on January 25, 1946. They lived in Mountain Home and later at the Alzola Brothers' Ranch until 1953. During that time they had two children, Gary and Karma, and had to move back to Mountain Home to be near schools.
Doris went to work for Idaho Power in 1953. She loved her job and was always so thankful of how the company treated her. She became the Customer Service Supervisor and was the first woman supervisor in the company. During her career she was also very involved with the Business and Professional Women's Organization and became the state president in 1984. She also served on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. She retired in 1985 after 32 years of service.
This started a new chapter in her life that she thoroughly enjoyed. She spent time with her family and great friends that she had made over the years. She traveled extensively, including trips to Spain, and ten trips to Australia where she had great experiences and met great friends.
All of the family looked forward to the holidays to go to "Grandma's house" for all the goodies. She enjoyed cooking and loved having her family together. Martin died in 2005 and Doris moved to Meridian in 2008. Her faith was a big part of her life. She was a convert to the Catholic Church and was active in The Our Lady of Good Counsel and later at The Risen Christ in Meridian.
Doris is survived by son: Gary and his wife Chris Alzola, daughter: Karma Ellis, sister: Karma and her husband Bob LeMaster, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with Martin, she was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and three brothers.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Heart Association, 270 So. Orchard, Suite B, Boise, ID 83705 or the American Lung Association, 8030 Emerald St., Suite 175, Boise, ID 83704.

Memories and Condolences

Not sure what to say?

Dear Karma and family,
I just learned of your dear mother's death today, and have been thinking of you. Doris had the most enthusiastic and interesting view of life, and was an inspiration to me, even though I knew her for only a short length of time. I always felt my spirits uplifted after seeing her, in spite of the challenges she experienced with her health.
Sincerely,
Sally Langley

Gary and Karma I'm very saddened to hear of your mom's passing and my condolenses go out to you and your families. This takes me back to days when we were growing up and the great times we had with all your family (your mom and dad and you two) at the TM Ranch (remember how heavy the blankets were on those upstairs beds you couldn't even wiggle under them) and at home playing card games etc. I'm thankful to have known you and your family.

As we say goodbye to Tía Doris we will remember her standing tall and elegant, so striking and beautiful no matter what she wore. She was strong and hard-working - no chore too big for her with a country spirit to the core yet a polished business professional to top it off. We'll remember her strong example of faith leading her life and a positive attitude. Working quickly and efficiently always, flowers were planted early on. Holiday decorations were taken down and stored on tidy shelves in the garage just days after Christmas. Fall leaves, raked up as they fell. She was kind and generous, always remembering our birthdays and making sure that we celebrated every special occasion together. Creative and resourceful, she could “whip something up” in the kitchen at the snap of a finger. She brought great joy to everyone playing, singing, laughing, listening and encouraging.

We will miss her so, as the one last pillar of that generation in our family. We'll miss calling home, hearing the latest Mountain Home news, stories of Mom and Dad, coming home and hanging out, watching tennis together, painting Easter eggs, meeting up for mass and pizza, getting recipes, shopping, jam in the freezer and sticky popcorn. Ander will miss his best fan ever, cheering him on from the sidelines. Ane, the endless Skip-Bo games, snuggling on the couch through movies, multiple bags of pop-corn, ice cream cones for breakfast, those special, private fiestas on the front porch and being singled out as “Tía´s darlin' darlin'” .

From afar to our family, we are with you all now and we´ll be forever thankful for the many great times spent with our Tía.

Ane, Ander, Michelle and José Luis

Gary, Karma, and Alzola families,

I am extremely saddened by the passing of Doris. It was last month when I saw Doris and she looked beautiful, was all smiles (typical Doris) and said she felt great. I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers and with all the family.

My sincere condolences to the family for your loss. Life seems to fly by all too quickly. How loving God is to console us with his promise of eternal life.~John 3:16

Gary and Karma, your families, all of the other relatives,
I was so surprised to see that Doris had left us...I'm so sorry for your loss. I know that the holidays just make it harder, but from my experience, being together and sharing memories helps make the time easier. I, too, am so saddened that we won't see her big smile or hear her tell me "Hi, Geelie!" My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

I went to high school with Gary. I then got to know Doris when I started working for Idaho Power in 1978. Our work connection was over the phone and I could always learn something about customer service from Doris. She was a wonderful gracious lady.
