Janet Herndon Obituary

Janet Fraser Herndon
3/21/1925 ~ 3/20/2017
Janet "Chick" Fraser Herndon, 91, of Boise, died on March 20, 2017 at home.
Janet was born in Boise, Idaho to Robert Davidson and Gertrude Fraser.
She attended and graduated from Boise High School and later attended 2 years at Scripps College.
Janet married her beloved husband, Emmett Herndon and they enjoyed 72 years of marriage and resided in Boise.
She and Emmett were long time owners of Peasley Transfer and Storage.
Janet had and enjoyed many hobbies that included sewing, tennis, gardening, biking and swimming in Payette Lake and she was a Boise Philharmonic fan.
She was active within the community where she sang in the Presbyterian Choir for 30 years, she sang in the Barber Shop Quartet and was a Co-Founder/Member of the Boise Racquet and Swim Club.
Janet is survived by her loving husband Emmett (Boise, Id.); daughter, Terri and Ron Imel (Boise, Id.); son, Fraser and Cindy Herndon (Eureka, Ca.); daughter, Kit Herndon (Boise, Id.); daughter, Anne Herndon and Russ McKinley (Boise, Id.); 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother Gertrude Atherton Fraser, her father Robert Mobray Davidson, step mother Georgia Davidson, and sister Carolyn Bradford Brown.
Chick was a wonderful mother and her motto was "Kids don't belong in the house!" which led her children to explore the neighborhood, ride bikes all over town, sleep out on the trampoline, and have so many adventures.
She can be seen in her photo wearing Williams attire, as that is the college that Emmett attended during the war. She was always very supportive of her husband. She was loved by many and will be missed by all.
There will be a graveside service for Janet on Friday March 24th at 2:00 pm at Morris Hill Cemetery in Boise, Idaho.

I was very honored to be Emmetts nd Janets first caregiver. I looked forward to her and Emmett singing me the good morning song and she would give me this big smile that would make my day! I was so proud to see she had a peace and always happy to please Emmett and
Whoever crossed her path. She desired to do everything and stay active up till the end. Which made me so proud of her. Once in awhile she would say a humorous sentence and make me laugh. My deepest Sympathy to all of the family. I pray God can wrap his loving arms around you all and give you peace, comfort, and strength. R.I.P.Janet
Sincerely, Connie Mumaugh C.N.A.

I grew up next door to Janet and Emmett and remember them riding bikes everywhere, often with their tennis gear slung across their shoulders or riding down Curtis Road on their way to work. Their yard with it's little sitting areas and an abundant garden always looked inviting and warm. They worked hard to make it a welcoming, gathering place for their lovely family. Janet was a friendly women who you could tell cared about the things that were important in life. Janet blessed and impacted many lives for good and I appreciate her fine example. We are thinking of your family at this time of your loss.

What a competitor! The senior team I played on made it to Nationals in Tucson one year - I remember the trip fondly. In the meantime one could find her at the BSU games cheering for the home team. Boise will miss you.

I loved your mom. Many days of my youth were spent at the Herndons. Sleeping on the trampoline, was always an adventure. I did spend a day with your mom. We both showed up alone, with self made signs. We were protesting the invasion of Iraq, at the corner of Milwaukee. We had a great afternoon talking about families, life and all the fun times.
She was a wonderful lady.
Healing prayers for the family.

My memory is that she always had a smile and a sweet word for everyone she met. An icon in the Boise tennis community, I will sincerely miss her grace.

Many hours of my youth were spent at the Herndon house. Mrs. Herndon (Janet) was always pleasant and accommodating to all of us who visited. Yes, I slept out on the tramp as mentioned in the obituary. We played baseball in the side yard as well. R.I.P. Janet Herndon!

Janet would come into the office at Peasley's often, always a smile with a greeting. It was pleasure being around her. One Special Lady!
