John Osgood Obituary

Colonel John C. Osgood
1916 - 2012
Colonel John 'Jack' Osgood, USAF, retired, of Boise joined his wife, Ruth Anderson Osgood, and his savior on 4 December, 2012. Jack was born in Ruth, Nevada, on 4 May, 1916. A graduate of Twin Falls HS, he studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Idaho where he joined the Army Air Corps in 1940. During WWII he served as a B-24 Commander in the European Theater where he was awarded The Silver Star and The Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism in combat. He met his bride in San Antonio, TX and raised a family while serving around the globe including tours in Munich, Germany and La Paz Bolivia. Following a full military career, Jack retired in 1963 to Boise, Idaho and found a second career in real estate as the Executive Secretary for the Boise Board of Realtors, retiring a second time in 1979. In recent years, he developed a passion for the Peregrine Fund where he volunteered for many years. He was also a member of the BPOE.
Jack leaves behind his children, John Osgood and his wife Mona, Fred Osgood, Rich Osgood and his wife Maribeth, and Joyce Lee and her husband John; four grandchildren, Libby Osgood, Lindsey (Osgood) Hamood and her husband Ramsey, Rebecca Lee and Brenna Lee; and great granddaughter Layla Hamood.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, 10 December, at 3 pm at the Euclid Church of the Nazarene in Boise. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to The Peregrine Fund (my.peregrinefund.org). Donations will go to educating children about birds of prey.

Jack was a one of a kind man - in so many ways. My husband, Fred, and I will miss him terribly, but we have wonderful memories of him. I met him at The Peregrine Fund, where he became a beloved volunteer. Always smiling, he greeted guests with enthusiasm. Staff, volunteers and guests enjoyed his consistent positive attitude. I treasure images of him 'checking in for duty' (his words) in the morning and going through his ritual of saying hello to each one of our birds housed outdoors. He loved the birds; their beauty, the role they play in nature, and he passed that admiration on to others. Most of all, I valued his friendship and genuine kindness to me. I was cheered when he was around; we'd discuss world issues and I would fill him in on the latest updates with our birds of prey. He was humble about his lifetime of extraordinary accomplishments, but I was not surprised to learn that he had excelled during his amazing career. Through Jack, I became acquainted with his family and became close to them, as well. His caring family is a tribute to Jack. I deeply regret that I hadn't seen him during the past several months and will forever recall him as a gentleman and a gentle man. Goodbye, my dear friend.

I too loved Jack very much and missed him every day since me left Meadow Lake Village. What a full and wonderful life he had with so many accomplishments, yet he was so humble that he always made others feel more important. Ann Upchurch
