Lucas McGregor Obituary

Lucas James McGregor Lucas James McGregor was born March 22, 1978 in Moses Lake, Wash. to Dan and Ann McGregor. He joined two brothers, Jason Lee and Benjamin Wells McGregor and a sister Mary Rachel McGregor Murdock. His entrance into this life was facilitated by a horse ride his mother took the evening before he was born. A new calf, hidden by its mother, needed to be found and via horse was the discovery method. This horse ride was a harbinger of his life's passion and career. Luc attended grade school in Warden, Wash.; Germantown, Tenn.; Smithton, Ill. and Mission Viejo, Calif. His middle school was the green and white of West Junior High in Boise, Idaho. He graduated from Borah High School also of Boise. While in high school, he wrestled and played varsity football. Luc served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in France. Becoming fluent with the French language motivated him to complete a degree from Boise State University in French. At the age of 21, he was introduced to horses and although his first bareback ride ended with a fall and a split ear, he lived to ride again and again and again. He began his college studies at the University of Utah but after a year there he returned to be near the horses. He returned to France and spent six months working on a stud farm. This experience solidified his decision to make horse training his life's work. He married Marie Hardin in 2004 and they had a daughter, Helena Gwyenne, who preceded Luc in death. A divorce followed. A family business, the Lucky Run Arena, provided the platform from which he launched his training career. This last year was spent perfecting his skills and attending horse shows. The horse community is close knit; thus numerous, wonderful friendships were developed. Luc left this life doing what he loved, training and riding horses. We will miss you. We wish you Heavenly Father's love and many lucky runs in the eternities. Luc died Friday, Sept. 28, 2007 at the age of 29 from injuries sustained from a riding accident. Luc was preceded in death by his daughter, and grandparents J.G. and Mary Millward, and grandfather William Allen McGregor. He is survived by his parents, three siblings, grandmother, Rachel Brown McGregor, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the Kuna Paramedics, St. Al's Life Flight and all the generous friends and family that have offered help and comfort. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution be made in memory of Lucas J. McGregor, to the Idaho Horse Park Foundation, 16114 Idaho Center Blvd. Suite 2, Nampa, Idaho 83687. Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007 at 10 a.m. at the Kuna Second Ward LDS Chapel, 224 East Avalon Street, Kuna, Idaho. The family will greet friends from 9 to 9:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Holmes Cemetery, in Donnelly, Idaho. Funeral arrangements are being provided by Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 North Midland Blvd. Nampa.

My deepest sympathies to the McGregor family. Luc and I met at the University of Utah and have kept in touch over the years. I loved our little chats because he was always so funny and quick to offer a pep talk. He was loyal, generous and one of the most loving people that I have ever met. He is dearly missed.
