Robert McCann Obituary

Robert David McCann
Robert David McCann, 66, of Nampa, passed away Monday, February 29, 2016 at a local hospital. He was born in Portland, OR and was adopted into the loving family of Mac and Lillian McCann with older brother Tom. He grew up playing on the "Forty Acres Woods"- climbing trees, shooting BB guns, and gathering eggs on the family egg ranch. After his father passed away, and his mother remarried, the family moved to Nampa where he lived the rest of his life. Robert attended West Junior High, and Nampa High Schools. In school he was very active in sports and mischief. After graduating in 1967, he served his country in the U.S. Army. While in the service, he married his high school sweetheart, Jolene Henkel, and they later had daughters Lisa (Escobar), and Chris (Fuller). After serving in the Army, he worked as a Police Officer for the city of Nampa for seven years, and later worked for 30+ years for Motive Power Inc. until he retired. Robert was very involved with Adult Softball- playing, coaching and managing. The whole family would travel with him to various places for games. As an avid big game hunter, he hunted and camped as much as he could. Having graduated later in life from TUCC and BSU, he was a strong BSU football fan, as well as a Denver Bronco fan. Eleven years ago, he married the love of his life, Melody Gossard. Robert is survived by his wife; his daughters, Lisa (Jamie) and Chris (Lonnie); his brother, Tom (Karen) McCann of Denver; grandsons: David (Lexi), Matthew and Michael; granddaughters, Marisa (Carlos) and Juanita Escobar; step-sons: Dan Gossard, Matt (Patie) Gossard, and Mason Valverde; step-daughter, Miriah Valverde. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Jolene; and granddaughter, Erica Fuller. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 4 at Kohlerlawn Cemetery, 76 6th St. North in Nampa with a gathering after the service at Christ the King Church, 2121 Caldwell Blvd in Nampa. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society. Final arrangements are under the direction of Zeyer Funeral Chapel, Nampa, 467-7300. Bob was a good Friend through School, Altar Boys and Boy Scouts. We got to camp together and we really enjoyed his yellow 56 Chevy, we would sometimes skip church and go to the stands or Caldwell for a burger. We always had our eyes out for the girls and just shared fun times together. I saw him 5 years ago when I came to Nampa and we had a chance to catch up. Miss him and his laugh. RIP Brother. :(

I will never say goodbye to you my Father
because I know this is not the end for us to see each other.
You will only be going to a place where there's no pain nor suffering.
I am happy for you, for you will be with God.
For now we need to go in separate ways.
I remember how your arms hold me and give me strength.
You were always there to listen, love, and defend me in everything.
You were my very best friend.
In my triumphs you were always proud.
I'm very grateful and proud to call you my dad.
Here deep inside my heart you'll always be.
I would give up everything I have just to hug you one more time.
I remember the last time I held your hand and how you looked at me in the eyes.
If only I could turn back the time I would have never let you go.
I felt the world stop and my heart stop beating when they told me you were gone.......
How I wish I was only dreaming.
Just like the rain; tears fell down from my eyes, I couldn't speak for awhile.
Thank you Dad....
For always understanding, listening, caring, and loving me your whole life.
The greatest gift God gave me was YOU........ my Dad...
It's difficult to let you go but I must...
I must return the gift God gave me...
Till then;
See you in Heaven.........

Bob was my brother's friend in high school. I always liked Bob. I remember one year when he helped my Dad by driving potato true. I also remember all the times he would stop me after I got into high school. Never ticketed me though. :)
