James Cawthon Obituary
CANON, GA.
Mr. James Walter Cawthon, Sr., 88, of Canon, GA passed away on Monday, November 03, 2014, at the Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, GA.
Mr. Cawthon was born in Canon, GA on June 17, 1926, son of the late Raleigh B. Cawthon and the late Lorene Scogins Cawthon. He was a bus driver for the Franklin County School System and a member of the Canon Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, choir member and part of the Adult V Sunday School Class. Mr. Cawthon was a former member of the Lions Club and a U.S. Army Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Cawthon was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie "Nell" Estelle Cawthon; and brother, William E. "Billy" Cawthon, Sr.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Lisa Cawthon of Canon, GA; grandchildren, Wendi Cawthon, Jennifer Cawthon, and Jason Cawthon; great grandchild, Aubrey Cawthon; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Martha Cawthon of Hartwell, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Mike Duncan of Canon, GA.
Funeral services for Mr. Cawthon will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, November 06, 2014, at the Canon Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Hardy, Rev. Eldon Massey, and Rev. Paul Creason officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon. Interment will follow in the Oakview Cemetery in Canon, GA.
The family will receive friends at Pruitt Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening. The family is at the home of Jimmy and Lisa Cawthon, 890 Cawthon Davis Road, Canon, GA 30520.
Flowers are optional; memorials may be made to the Canon Baptist Church Puppet Team, P.O. Box 306, Canon, GA 30520.
