Clyde von Grimmenstein Obituary

Clyde W. von Grimmenstein 84, of Indianapolis, went home to be with the Lord on May 26, 2010. Born February 1, 1926, Clyde represented the greatness of America by rising out of poverty from the steel mills of Clairton, PA to becoming the figurehead and Chairman of Van Ausdall & Farrar located in Indianapolis. He loved business, sports, friends and his family. After attending high school in Clairton, Clyde went on to attend the Virginia Military Institute for one semester, then joined the Army Air Corps. Clyde passed his entrance exams to West Point in June of 1945, and went on to excel in basketball and football for the Cadets. Recruited to Purdue University by Stuart Holcomb, he finished his college career where he often led the school's nationally ranked football team. Clyde joined Van Ausdall & Farrar as a young salesman in 1950 and went on to win numerous national sales awards while growing the company. In 1958, he was named Vice President and General Sales Manager and later went on to purchase the company in 1962. He was loved by his employees and was active in the Indianapolis community through many organizations such as Rotary and Junto. Clyde is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Claire, his daughter, Christy, and son, Eric; two step-sons, Greg and David; and four grandchildren, Devon, Colin, Neriah and Meirah. A celebration of Clyde's life will begin with a visitation to be held at Castleview Baptist Church on Hague Road, Tuesday, June 1st from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Funeral services for friends and family will start at 1:30 p.m. The procession to Washington Park North Cemetery will depart from the church at 2:30 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel.
