Darlene Bryan Obituary

Darlene Dycus Bryan

73, of Carmel, who passed away from Alzheimer's Disease on July 15, will be best remembered for the love and joy with which she lived. Having opened her heart and home to many throughout the years, Darlene's generous spirit helped all those she encountered find love, acceptance and friendship. Her ability to listen and make those around her feel important helped many people through challenges in their lives and was a great example to her daughter and close friends. Darlene was an incomparable mother, providing guidance and a living example of love and joy. She was a kind and loving daughter, caring for her mother, Cleo Dycus, whom she loved so well. She shared an extraordinary friendship with Sally Simon, who remained loyal and steadfast throughout many years of this challenging disease. Sally kept Darlene laughing and finding the beauty in life.

As the owner of Secrets Nail and Hair Salon, Darlene was able to extend her sense of family to clients and all those she encountered in her business. She was a selfless employer, always wanting what was best for all. She loved her clients, many of whom became life-long friends.

Born on April 7, 1943, in Dixon, Tennessee, Darlene knew how to pour on the southern charm and often used it with great aplomb. Her friends and family enjoyed her hospitality and she was never caught without a pot of coffee at the ready in case a loved one needed to talk.

She is survived by her daughter Ashley Bryan, her loving son in-law, Chris Gabbard, grandson Ethan Joel Gabbard, best friend Sally Simon and her "second" daughter Linda Hineman Lamb. Darlene was preceded in death by her son Joel Bryan; her mother, Cleo Dycus; and her "second" son, John Ballew whom she loved so much.

A Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. in the gardens at Joy's House on Saturday, July 30, 2016 followed by a dance party for "Dancin' Darlene". My mother, Joyce Taylor, was one of Darlene's best friends for many years. I remember the day that I walked into my mother's bedroom and told her of Darlene's passing. I'll never forget the look on my mother's face... It was a look like my mother was connecting to Heaven at that moment. And sadly, I lost my mother just 11 days later. Although they are both in Heaven, it is extremely difficult to deal with and very sad.

I remember when you sat on the pile of straw at the brick barn then found out it had manure in it. That look on your face was unforgettable. Wont be long before we meet again.

What a sweet person Darlene was! She did my nails for 25+ years. We would discuss it all and she always made you feel wonderful! Heaven really gained a wonderful angel! Blessings Ashley and your family. Rest in peace Darlene... Karen

Darlene was one of my mother's (Joyce Taylor) best friends and that is how I met her. She became family to me and over the last 10 years I felt like she was more like an aunt to me...
I am absolutely sick over her passing. She is now in a beautiful place called Heaven.

Darlene was one of the kindest and giving persons that I have known. She did my nails for 20 years I went to Secrets every other week. During that time many subjects were discussed. Our children were always a high lite. Every time Ashley was mentioned her eyes always twinkled and a smile was always on her faced. I miss those years. Every time You would speak to Darlene you were always uplifted. Rest in peace Darlene

Darlene was a great person and mother. I spent many great years of my youth at Darlene's house with my best friend Joel. She always made everyone feel special, what a great southern lady. Her home was always open and welcome to anyone. I have many special memories from those days. I'm a better person for the time I spent at Darlene's house. Thanks for all those memories.

Much love to you all. She taught you how to love, to give, to share, and to be so lovely. She was a beautiful force and the world will miss her gentle smile and laugh. What a journey you have been on and she is leading you to the next part of where the journey will take you all. LOVE. PEACE. JOY.

Your mom (Mrs. Bryan) was all you mentioned, and more. Even in the depths of Alzheimers, she maintained her positive and happy sense of being. She was an absolute joy to visit. I will miss that smile, and the many memories of our childhood in the Woodlands, and of course, Hilton Head.

I love you Ashley, Chris, and Ethan.
