Edwin Koch Obituary

Edwin F. Koch, Jr., MD. Died Thursday, March 17, 2011 in Royal Megansette Nursing Center in Falmouth, MA. His daughters, Helen Koch of Vineyard Haven, MA and Barbara Koch of Santa Cruz, CA were at his side. The cause of death was complications of Parkinson's Disease. Dr. Koch, formerly of Muncie, Indiana, moved to Falmouth in 2006. He was an active member of the Indiana medical community serving as President of the Indiana Radiological Society, Chairman of the Clinical Staff of Ball Memorial Hospital, in Muncie, President of the Muncie Academy of Medicine and Chairman of the Health Division of the Community Services Council of Delaware County. He was a participant in many community organizations including Planned Parenthood of Delaware County, Indiana of which he was President and the United Way of Delaware County where he served as a Board Member. Dr. Koch was born in Nashville, Tennessee on July 16, 1927, son of Annie Clark Davis Koch and Edwin F. Koch, Sr. He was a graduate of Shelbyville, Indiana High School. He received a B. Sci. Degree in Nautical Science in 1948 from the United State Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY, a BA in Chemistry from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio in 1951 and a Doctor of Medicine from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1955. Additional medical education included an internship at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY and a radiology residency at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis from 1958-1961. He served as an Active Duty Lieutenant in the United States Navel Medical Corps from 1956-58. He was board certified by the American Board of Radiology and the American Board of Nuclear Medicine, and served on the staff of Ball Memorial Hospital for 33 years. He was a Fellow of the American College of Radiology. A lover of the visual arts, he was a Life Trustee of the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
