Jan, I set here today being asked to accept the Alumni of the year award at J Everette Light Career Center. The person that comes to mind is Jerry. I was so happy to see him a few years ago at Walmart and THANK him for guiding me in my younger years. I recently heard of his passing and was sorry to hear BUT, Happy I got to say goodbye.
God always takes the good ones however they never leave in spirit. I just wanted to introduce myself to you and say I am so sorry for your loss. Jerry was a very special person. If you ever get into ANY of the Tom Wood Stores, Please ask for me. They know how to find me. I would love to meet you.

It's strange that when you hear about a friend's passing your mind races back to that first meeting...Tuy Hoa Air Base, Vietnam - 1970. Jerry was Air Force, I was Navy but we were kindred spirits. Good bye old friend, sorry we lost contact.

Your sympathy cards were so appreciated by me. Only time can heal the pain but friends who take time to offer comfort are like angels administring to broken hearts. I will always cherish the efforts made to help me feel how special my husband was to others. He was a really good man and loved by his family and countless friends, teachers and students. He will be greatly missed.

Jerry was first a banking customer of mine, then later our paths crossed again when he became a teacher at J Everett Light & recognized the similarity of last names of one of his new JEL colleagues, my hubby. Jerry & I both enjoyed getting reacquainted, sharing memories of the first time we met & the character judgement I made that day that meant so much to him. Later I was privileged to create his JEL retirement frame. I am saddened to know that he was in hospice care as I would have visited him. I have lost a special friend who paid a huge price serving his country. He will be missed. Prayers for Jerry & his family & friends.
