Joseph Moheban Obituary

Dr. Joseph Moheban

- - The world lost an extraordinary man, Dr. Joseph Moheban on January 3rd, 2019.

He was born October 10, 1931 in Meshad, Iran and was the son of the late Jacob and Zimarod Moheban.

Joe lived an incredible 87 years and is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn J. (Turner) Moheban. He is survived by his three children. Daughter Lisa Hueber (Stuart) of Dallas, TX. Son Jeffrey Moheban (Erin) of Fishers, IN. Son Greg Moheban (Martha) of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren Whitney Hodges, Alyssa Sprick, Rachael Moheban, Hannah Moheban, Matthew Moheban, Joseph Moheban and Jordan Moheban; great-granddaughter, Layla Hodges; three sisters and two brothers.

Joe came to the United States in 1951 and graduated from Kansas State Teachers College in three years, and received his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1959. Dr. Moheban began his family practice in Shelbyville in 1960 and delivered over 2,500

babies. He retired in 2004 after 44 years of service.

Dr. Moheban was a member of the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation, The Shelbyville Lions Club, The Shelbyville Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, The American Medical Association, The American Academy of Physicians, The Indiana State Medical Association and the Shelby County Medical Society.

"Poppa," as he was known by his grandchildren cherished time with family above all else. He loved all of our family gatherings, especially Thanksgiving. We could never come too early or stay too late. He also enjoyed golfing, traveling and having coffee with his buddies. Joe loved history and the United States of America.

There will be a private family graveside service. A celebration of Dr. Moheban's life will be held at a later date.

Our deepest sympathy to the family. My Father Art. Turner trusted few Doctors but had great respect for his Nieces husband. I too knew he was a talented Physician and a good person meeting him at the time of Dads surgery. My sympathy to Carolyn and the children. Jack Turner.
