As I pass my retirement here on the lake in northeastern Indiana, Jay will sometimes pop into my mind and I remember her with love and affection. She was such a great assistant, colleague, and friend at the law school. So much of our lives was spent working together that I still find it hard to believe she has passed on. Thank you, Jay, for your friendship and all your faithful work. Love and hugs to you and your family. Jim Bailey, Emeritus Professor of Law and Director of the Law Library.

To many she was mom, mama, Aunt Jay, Granny and Jay. To me she was simply "Merlie." Not a nickname but a sweet name that only I called her because sweet she certainly was. A wonderful sister and my very best friend. Life without her will be difficult for me and many others. I love her immensely but GOD loved her more and took her home to rest in peace. A lifetime of memories to hold dear to my heart and the wonderful second mom to my children, who adored her. Until we meet again, know that you were a true diamond to this family.
Loving You Always and Forever Your little sister, Marian (Pookie)

Nate and Family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. However, please take solace in the vast number of lives that Jay touched. It was very common to have former students, faculty, and administrators stop by the law library and they could not leave without seeing Jay. I know she was a powerful influence in my life. Most importantly was her commitment to you and your family. She truly delighted in telling stories about her life and sharing all of the accomplishments by members of your family. I felt as though I knew many of you without ever meeting you in person. Again, thank you for Sharing Jay with us and my family will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
Ed, Melissa, Trey, Eddie, Gabriel, and Cory

Dear Jay - What a joy and blessing you were to me as my assistant at the law school for all those long years. I couldn't have asked for a better personality, better counsel, better professional work, and (best of all) a better FRIEND. Your work and support were most appreciated, and I have missed you all these years since I retired to northern Indiana. Rest in peace, dear friend. May the angels accompany you always. And Dear Family, I send my deepest and most sincere sympathies on your immense loss. May the good Lord watch over and keep you all.

I was home and visiting Franny when we received word of my friend's transitioning. Tears flowed and so did the laughter when I told Franny's girls of Marilyn's and my cheerleading episodes. I'll always love her! We all were blessed to have her in our lives. I loved her and I love her family. Blessings to you all!
