CHARLES CURRIE Obituary
REV. CHARLES L.
Fr. Currie had been serving as the executive director of Jesuit Digital Network. From 1997 to 2011 he served as president of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU). A revered leader in Jesuit higher education, he previously served as president of both Wheeling Jesuit University (1972-1982) and Xavier University (1982-1985); director of Georgetown University's Bicentennial celebration (1989); rector of the Jesuit community at Saint Joseph's University (1991-1997); and as a faculty member at Georgetown and Saint Joseph's. Fr. Currie was a beloved figure both within and outside of the Jesuit network. He remained proud of his roots in Philadelphia, but thrived on the energy of Capitol Hill during his years in Washington, D.C. His tireless energy, keen sense of humor, legendary story-telling skills, and enormous heart will all be greatly missed.
Friends may call at the Jesuit Residence at Wolfington Hall at Georgetown University on Friday, January 11, from 3 - 5 P.M. and 7 - 9 P.M. with a Vigil Service at 7:30 P.M. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 12, at 10:30 A.M. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Washington, D.C., preceded by a viewing at 9:30 A.M. Interment immediately following. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Fr. Charles L. Currie, SJ Jesuit Scholars Fund, Georgetown University.

What a loss for our family! We loved Father Currie very much. He was a great friend of my Dad's, Arthur Ciervo, from Georgetown in the 1960s. He would go on to marry me, my sister and baptize our kids.
When my parents were both dying, he drove to be with us, hold our hands, and later conducted funerals for both my parents. When my mom died, the phone was ringing in her hospital room and it was Father Currie who somehow knew she had just passed. We love him and will miss his presence forever. We are so fortunate that he was a part of our lives.
