VAN SCOTT DR. EUGENE J. Dr. Eugene J. Van Scott, a resident of Abington, PA, passed away on July 21, 2025. Eugene was born on May 27, 1922 in Macedon, New York. He was a devoted husband to his late wife Mary. They were blessed with three children; Christopher, Stephen and David and four grandchildren, Tess, Eve, Olivia and Christopher. Both Dr. and Mrs. Van Scott were lovingly cared for in their later years by a small group of very compassionate and dedicated caregivers who over 23 years became family. Affectionately called the "The Thomas Edison of American Dermatology, Dr. Van Scott was best known for the discovery of alpha hydroxy acids alongside longtime collaborator Ruey Yu. The duo later founded the skin care company NeoStrata, a leader in dermocosmetics. Dr. Van Scott served as founder and the first chief of the Dermatology branch of the National Cancer Institute and later as Deputy Chairman of the Department of Dermatology at the Temple University School of Medicine. He developed the first effective treatment for cutaneous T-cell lymphoma earning the highly prestigious Albert Lasker Clinical Medical Research Award in 1972. Beyond his accolades and achievements, Dr. Van Scott has had a profound impact on patients and their families, both through research and in medical practice. My condolences to the family. We just heard the sad news.

My family and I have been neighbors of Dr. Van Scott for 50 years.

I've known Dr. Van Scott since I was in college in the mid-70's and my Dad would bring me down to tend to the landscaping needs of #1 and #2 Hidden Lane.

While we saw each other over the years frequently as he drove by or as we worked outside on our respective properties, we never communicated until the last 15 years.

As recently as last year, my sister and I sat in his office and he entertained us for over an hour on a range of topics: from his thoughts about DJT (reach out and I will relay his insightful comment) to his helping my Dad extricate himself from #2 Hidden Lane 30 years ago after locking himself in for over 3 hours.

He was an amazing man with a profound presence that silenced me, knowing it was much more valuable to be listening than hearing myself talk.

In addition, he greatly assisted my sister Alice who suffered from a skin condition which he successfully treated over the years.

Again, on behalf of the Connor family, our heart-felt condolences to our accomplished and kind neighbor for over 50 years,

The Connor Family

My brother and I were both born with Ichthyosis and were patients of Dr. VanScott in the 1960´s until about the mid 80´s. Dr. VanScott was brilliant, committed to his research and devoted to his patients. I have never forgotten his smile. He made you feel like you were his most important patient. My brother and I were blessed to have been under his care. My deepest sympathies to his family.
