Hagopian Edward June 16, 2025. Edward Hagopian (pronounced HA-GO PEE-IN with the accent on the GO). Ed was a pianist/conductor who has played for an impressive array of artists including: Mel Torme, Tommy Tune, Bobby McFerrin, Randy Newman, Chita Rivera, Patti LaBelle, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Johnnie Ray, and Tiny Tim. As a member of the United States Navy band, he played for two United States Presidents, Eisenhower and Kennedy and for NASA's 40th Anniversary Celebration in Washington D.C. Ed performed on the stage of the Academy of Music for ten years with Peter Niro and the Philly Pops and on the stage of Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts for the international artists, "The Three Cantors". Ed taught in the Upper Darby School District for 30 years at the elementary and secondary levels. At the elementary level, he presented students with their first chance to play an instrument. At the junior high level, he taught music appreciation and at the high school level, he taught keyboard skills to aspiring musicians. Ed was also an accompanist for the award-winning Upper Darby Choral groups. His professionalism was known and appreciated throughout the district. He was known by his students as "Mr. Ed". Ed received his Masters in Composition from Temple University and played with the Navy Band for four years. Ed and his wife, Rene, became a musical collaboration 23 years ago and have since traveled throughout the Eastern United States performing. Together, they sang with the Philly Pops Chorus and recorded two CDs with several original songs. Ed is survived by his loving wife and best bud, Rene Goodwin and his beloved stepdaughters, Irene Altimare and Kimberly Goodwin, as well as his cherished grandchildren: Charles Anthony Goushian, John Philip Goushian, and Jennifer Anne Muller. Ed was a great guy and a lot of fun to be around. I knew him because we were both in the Singing City choir of which I am still a member. He had a great bass voice which was perfect for the Russian music we sang on our trip to Russia in 1990. May he rest in peace.

Rene please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of Ed
I´m not sure if you remember me I handled the benefits for the school district and retired two years ago. You and Ed were the first retirees who came in to go over benefits when I took the position and I have never forgotten how pleasant, kind and patient you and Ed were and that meant so much to me
Ed was a dear sweet person and I am so sorry for your loss! I used to talk to you later in years more than Ed and you were always a pleasure! Take care
Fondly Shirley Letts
