To April, Mark, Jay and Peter,
Eichi (your dad), was known by most of the Judo world as "Doc." He was one of the kindest, loving men I have ever known. He was the best friend of my husband, Tom Dalton since their early Judo history. They could sit side by side on an airplane and be comfortable with each other even if they never said a word for the whole trip. They were so close, sometimes one knew what the other was thinking. We had so any wonderful times together during our Judo trips.
He was a mentor, friend, teacher and physician to thousands of judokas over the years. Everyone loved Eichi. He will be sorely missed by all who crossed his path over the years.
I will miss him terribly. His wife Phyllis, my husband Tom and I spent many weekends together playing Mahjong and enjoying each others company.
My prayers and condolences to the family.
There will never be another Eichi,
Lovingly,
Kei Narimatsu

To the Family of Dr Eichi Koiwai
DOC was one of those true gentle men who has influenced many lives, including mine. It is a deep, deep loss to the Judo community as well to the Medical community and to the many thousands of folks who have been privileged to know him. We will miss him, but we will honor him by keeping alive what he has taught us. Only though “passing it down” does a legacy become alive.
