What is left to be said about Jay, those of us who really knew him, know what kind of man he was. He did what he did best, he cared about people. He lived his life his way, and I respect him for that. Your wings are not heavy anymore Jaybird, you are free to fly. So long for now Booch

I don't remember when Jay wasn't a presence in our lives as he and our son Karl were friends forever it seems. Every once in awhile there would be a knock on our door as Jay stopped to say hello and swap cop stories with my husband even after our son had moved. We have missed these visits since moving, more so now. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. John and Mary Brenton

TO THE GRATIOUS AND ADMIRABLE MEMBERS OF THE CARROLL FAMILY;

MY MEMORIES OF JAY ARE INTERTWINED WITH THOSE OF HIS FATHER PETE AS MEN OF PRINCIPAL WHO WOULD STAND UP TO ANYONE WHO ABUSED OR MISUSED AUTHORITY. I SPOKE WITH JAY JUST A SHORT TIME AGO AND HE WANTED ADVICE ON HOW TO ONCE AGAIN TAKE ON AN UNFAIR SYSTEM. HIS LEGACY SHOULD BE AN EXAMPLE OF THOSE WHO SEEK TO BE A PROFILE IN COURAGE.

I'd known Jay for almost 30 years and can attest to the value he put into maintaining friendships and helping people. If ever I, or anyone I knew, had trouble Jay would certainly try to help. He was especially kind to my Uncle and his wife (Andy and Grace Glenn) and to my father - for that my family will always be grateful. My Jay rest in peace!!
