Thinking you you and Kathy on the anniversary of Matt´s passing. I know words do not ease the pain that you still feel but know that you´re in my heart and prayers.
Maria Suarez
March 22, 2005
Dr. Maria Suarez of Holy Family University wrote the following about Matt Trainor. It appeared in the February 2005 issue of "The Tri-Lite", the student newspaper at Holy Family University. It is in memorium to him:
"It should not happen this way. Children should not go before their parents. Students should not go before their teachers. Sometimes it is hard to understand God's plan.
Matt Trainor, a student at Holy Family, passed away on November 15, 2004. He was one of those students who changes teachers' lives. He taught me the meaning of dedication, responsibility, and hope in the face of great adversity. While in my class, Matt would call me from the hospital: 'What did I miss today? What should I read?' He continued his studies until his lips were blue from lack of oxygen. He tried so hard, until the end, to live a normal life!
Matt was a young person with the dignity and strength of a great hero. He chose to train for a profession to help people, and this at a time in his life when most who knew him were aware of his need for a medical cure. Matt could have benefitted from a timely transplant. He is a reminder to all of us of the importance of organ donation. Keep in your thoughts those who, like Matt, need an organ donation to live. In his memory, please become an organ donor."

Ric & Kathi: I cannot say how deeply the news of Matt's passing has saddened us. I have known you for so long. There is something we say in memory of those who are gone:
"To the departed whom we now remember, may peace and bliss be granted in life eternal. May they find grace and mercy before the Lord of heaven and earth. May their souls rejoice in that effable good which God has laid up for those who honor Him, and may their memory be a blessing to those who treasure it."

Dear Ric and Family,
I would like to express my heartfelt sympathy to the entire family. I didn't know Matthew. I don't even know most of the family. I worked with Ric for a couple of years and didn't even begin to become friendly with him until the day that I left that job. I remember that in that conversation he spoke about his family including Matthew. I remember being impressed with the genuine love that was apparent as he spoke.
I know that your pain is very real as you have had a physical separation. You cannot see him and I am sure that you long to be with him. It may even feel like he's left your home. The truth is that it is those of us here who are away from home. Matthew has new life and new power. With that he will always be with you.
My condolences are as deep as your faith. For those of us who believe, death is a beginning of when one prepares for the eternal reunion with those we love. Matthew is changed not gone. The time that you spend together in eternity will make a lifetime on earth seem like less than a second.
May God be with you all to comfort and guide you until you meet again.

Dear Ric, Kathleen, Christopher and Erin:
My deepest sympathy and prayers are really meant from the bottom of my heart for all of you at this most difficult time. I never met Matthew, but I felt like I did know him from what Ric told me about him. I do remember talking to him on the phone a couple of times and I remember his kind voice over the phone and how he thanked me for praying for him. I do not know everything, but I do know he is resting with Jesus and no more pain and suffering for him. I am sure he is watching over the four (4) of you now from heaven, and is happy that he was part of the best caring family ever. Ric, Kathleen, Christopher and Erin, I promise to never forget any of you. You are always on my prayer line. God Bless all of You. When you get a chance read Colossians Chapter 1 Verses 9 through 14.

During the 30+ years Ric and I have been friends, we have shared many experiences and special memories about our respective lives and families; lives that would have certainly not been complete without our children. It has been through our friendship I came to "know" Matt. I knew of Matt's sense of humor, his kindness, his love for his family and friends, his strength, determination and strong spirit. Matt will be deeply missed by his all whose life he touched and brightened during his brief time on earth. My heartfelt sympathy and prayers go out to his extremely loving and dedicated parents, brother and sister and all those who were blessed by "knowing" Matt.
