Alice Ruth Ward

Alice Ruth Ward, 93, of Oscoda, passed away Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025.
Born June 6, 1932, to George and Ruby (Stewart) Wissmiller in Greenbush, she was raised in Alcona County. On Sept. 22, 1951, she married Arnold Ward in Mikado. They were residents of Greenbush before moving to Flint.
A devoted homemaker, Ruth loved cooking and baking, and was known for her pies. Longtime residents of Flint and later Flushing, they retired to Oscoda. Ruth enjoyed crafts, especially arranging flowers. She loved to sew, and in her later years enjoyed working on Diamond Art. She was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. Ruth was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Mikado.
Ruth is survived by two sons, Harry (Janice A.) Ward of Clio, and Thomas (Janice M.) Ward of Durand; four grandchildren, Ryan (Kim) Ward, Robert Ward, Jason (Tammy) Ward, and Sherri (Aaron) Tower; seven great grandchildren, Ethan Ward, Brett Tower, Paris Ward, Julia Tower, Alexis Ward, Blake Ward, and Mally Tower; her sister, Linda (Dan) Monroe; her brother, George (Ruth) Wissmiller; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family appreciates her brother-in-law, Ken Welsch, and her sister-in-law, Marie Wissmiller, for all of their help over the years, and to her very helpful and wonderful neighbors.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, on May 9, 2019; and her siblings, Melvin Wissmiller, Shirley Small, Elaine Hanners, Jackie Welsch, and Jean Wissmiller.
Visitation will take place at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln, from 2 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 19. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Wednesday, Aug. 20, from 11 a.m. until the funeral service at 1 p.m. Rev. Char McGuire will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery, Oscoda.
