Larry W. Burns

Larry W. Burns, age 58, passed away early Wednesday morning, Sept. 21, 2011, at his home in Oscoda.
He was born Oct. 12, 1952, in Kalamazoo to Walter and Lillian Burns and had lived there for most of his life. He moved to the Oscoda area in 1998 and was joined in marriage to Carolle Bowman on Dec. 26, 2004.
Larry served in the U.S. Army in the early 1970s, including a year in Korea, and had worked for many years for the City of Kala­mazoo and for ITT in Oscoda before retiring. He loved his family, his church, had a passion for Harley motorcycles and enjoyed NASCAR racing.
Surviving are his wife, Carolle; children, Lisa James of Grand Rapids, Larry Burns Jr., Lessica Porter of Kalamazoo and Richard Burns of Oscoda; stepchildren, Candy, Thomas and Vanessa Bowman; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Maxine Hodgemire of Comstock and Julie (Steve) Carroll of Mendon; stepmother, Mary Peck of Galesburg; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held on Sunday, Sept. 25, at Huron Baptist Church in Oscoda. His remains will be buried at Maple Grove Cemetery, Kalamazoo, at a graveside service on Saturday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m. Arrangements are by Buresh Funeral Home, Inc., Oscoda.
