William Decker Obituary

William Jason Decker, age 46, passed away at his home in La Porte, Texas on Nov. 12, 2022. In Michigan, we always called him Billy growing up but to his loving family in Texas he was known as Willy.
He was born Jan. 21, 1976 on Wright-Patterson AFB Ohio to Andrew and Susan Decker. William was raised in Mikado and attended Oscoda Area Schools. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a paratrooper and parachute rigger at Fort Polk, La. He used to jump from "perfectly good airplanes" as he called them. He loved serving his country. While William was stationed at Fort Polk, he met his wife Tammy and they were later married. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he moved and settled down in La Porte, Texas.
Billy was a very skilled mechanic and was employed by Sinor Engines as a field services supervisor traveling all around the United States. He repaired the engines mainly used in the oil and gas industry. Prior to that, he was head mechanic at Gulf Coast Helicopters, and was also employed by Kalitta Air as an FAA Certified Powerplant Mechanic. He was also a turbine balancing specialist at Sulzer Turbo Services in LaPorte Texas balancing Turbines used in electric power generation.
He was a great cook and baker and was the best at smoking meats. His brisket was the best around. He was an avid fisherman who loved fishing in the Gulf of Mexico and fishing for steelhead in the AuSable River. He loved his family very much and would do anything for them. He loved watching his son, Holden, who is a senior in high school, play football.
Billy is survived by his parents Andrew and Susan; his loving wife of 18 years, Tammy; his son Holden; his daughter Brittany; his stepdaughter Morgan who he loved like she was his own daughter; his brothers Andrew Jr (Lisa) of Harrisville, Mike (Vicky) of Galena, Ohio, and James (Jan) of Plummer, Ida. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who loved him greatly. William was preceded in death by two older brothers, Gary and Robbie.
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. There will only be a small memorial amongst family and his ashes will be spread in the Gulf of Mexico at Surfside Beach at his favorite summer rental house.

Billy and worked together at Kalitta Air for about a year and a half. We would go fish the Ausable River for small mouth bass. He also introduced me to ice fishing. He will be missed and our prayers go out to his family.
