John Palmer Obituary

John (Jack) Hunter Palmer, Jr. Jack Palmer peacefully passed away in his home in Bluffton, SC surrounded by his loving family and into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 22nd. Born in Schenectady, NY June 27, 1927 and reared in Scarsdale, NY where he was an avid sailor spending his formative years sailing on Long Island Sound. After graduating from New Hampton Prep he then entered the Army. He was a WWII veteran. Upon leaving the Army he moved to Mountainside NJ where he raised his family and operated his own insurance agency. While in Mountainside he was elected as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and was active in local politics. In 1977 he relocated to Hilton Head Island, SC where he opened Sand Piper Realty and remained in the real estate industry for many years. Jack loved life and never met a stranger. His passions included the May River, the game of golf, building model WWII airplanes, WWII history, woodworking and telling a great joke while sharing a cigar and scotch on the rocks with friends and family. But his greatest passion and accomplishment was providing unconditional love for family and friends while spending quality time with each and everyone. Jack served God in many capacities, including being a Stephens Minister at the Church of the Cross, as well as hosting a men's bible study in his home for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. Palmer Sr. and Madelyn Cummings Palmer, his sister Virginia Palmer, brother in law Jimmy Palmer, as well as his first wife Trudy O'dell Palmer. He is survived by his wife Linda Clark Palmer, six children and three step children. The six children include: Adrienne Bonney of Hardeeville SC, Bill Van Daalen of Newton NJ, Gail Hoffmann of Charlotte NC, Jack Palmer of Torrance CA, Moe Roselle (Louis) of Lake Hopatcong NJ, and Amanda Cherry (Brad) of Charlotte NC. Step children include: Remer Y. Lane III (Vesna) of Hilton Head Is, SC, Mary Lane Harris (Jimmy) of Snellville, GA, and Clark Lane (Jenny) of Savannah, GA. He also leaves behind 24 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday June 25th at 11am at The Church of the Cross in Bluffton, SC. Remembrances may be sent to Hilton Head Heroes, Fellowship of Christian Athletes or the charity of your choice in his memory.

Dear Linda,

I am so sorry for your loss, but I know all will be ok as you and Jack had a wonderful life together and I was so happy that you found each other. I never will forget many years ago us sitting in a restaurant at Coligny Plaza and you asking the waitress about him as you wanted to know him more. You certainly were meant for each other. My heart hurts for you and I'm thinking of you.
Love, Barbara Montgomery Dunn

Jack had the special ability to make everyone he talked to...feel like they were so very special to him. May his legacy continue in his children and grandchildren's lives. When I think of Jack...I smile and the word "love" comes to mind❤ May all who knew and loved him be comforted by the peace and comforting arms of our God.

A deep hole in our hearts for this remarkable man. We are blessed to have known him and the remarkable children he left behind. Truly a legend, now holding court in Heaven. Probably with a cigar and his favorite beverage in a customized golf cart, his name emblazoned in Gold! God gave him everything except the gift of time. Rest in Peace Jack. You will live on eternally in our hearts.
