Violet LaFever Obituary

Violet (Betty) LaFever, 78, of Bluffton, passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at NHC of Bluffton. Betty was born in Olean, NY on March 7, 1934. On May 8, 1954, she married Richard LaFever. Richard was in the U.S. Air Force and stationed in Savannah, GA where their oldest daughter, Sharon, was born. After completing Richard's tour with the Air Force, they moved to Indiana where he obtained his Electrical Engineering degree. Betty worked at a life insurance company while he attended school. Betty and Richard then moved to Montgomery County, Maryland where he joined the John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory's engineering staff. Their second daughter, Danette, was born after moving to Maryland. In addition to her duties as a housewife, Betty did volunteer work at a local hospital. In July, 1998, Betty and Richard moved to Sun City from Rockville, MD. Betty became very active in various clubs such as Upbeats (social club), Travel Club, Bocce Club and Tap and Square Dance Clubs. In 1999, she formed the Line Dance Club and was the President of the club for the first three years. She also was one of the charter members of the Karaoke club. She was a member of the Mah Jongg and Tennis Clubs and played at every opportunity she could. She was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles. She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Okatie, SC. She is survived by her husband, Richard LaFever of Bluffton; two daughters, Sharon (Thomas) Symonds of Bluffton and Danette White of New Marret, MD and grandchildren, Megan Symonds, Kearstyn Brown, Millie Symonds and Michael White and great grandchildren, Madison Kazmierczak and Khloe Symonds. She was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Okatie, SC. The family requests memorial gifts be made to the American Cancer Society, 11 Mallett Way, Suite 301, Bluffton, SC 29910 in memory of Betty LaFever. Sauls Funeral Home, Bluffton
