1940 - 2024
Lynn - Charlene, 83, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 30, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was an ICON at Capitol Diner in Central Square, Lynn, as the Chef for over 50 years. "Charli" loved going to work everyday to see her regular customers, whom she always had witty remarks for. Once she took her first cruise, she looked forward to cruising every year!
Loving Ma to daughter, Susan Mercaldi, son-in-law, Daniel Gilio, daughter, Beth Mercaldi and her fiancé Michael Jackson, son, Christian Pappas and grandson, Dylan Mercaldi. Also survived by sisters Andrea Lane and Paula Zouras, nephew Charles Zouras and his wife Caitlin. and niece Heather-Ann Kotchian. Charlene was particularly close to her best friend of over 70 years, Peggy Dearborn, whom she considered a sister. Predeceased by her parents Charles and Mary Pappas, brother Chuck Pappas, son Gary "Easy" Mercaldi, daughter Lisa M. Chun, grandson Nicholas Mercaldi-Gilio and brothers-in-law Robert Lane and James Zouras.
Charlene was of strong character, compassionate and generous. She was the backbone of our family, and will be missed tremendously by all.
Service Information: Our family will honor Ma's wishes with a private service.

I remember Charlene from the Capitol Diner as a very hard worker and a friend. Her daughter Beth is a colleague of mine from Lynn Tech and a hard worker as well as a good friend.

I will Forget how wonderful it was to go to To the Capital Diner And hear the kidding of Charlene and Bob from Nahant taxi insulting each other with good taste. Charlene may going to the diner so special. It was a closest thing to the to the tv series
