Michael Mercaldi

Michael A. Mercaldi of Southbury, CT passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, March 27th, 2022 at the age of 88.
Mike was born on November 13th, 1933, beloved son of Mike and Mildred (Sanchione), brother of dearly predeceased siblings Louise LaChioma and Frank Mercaldi.
Growing up in the North End of Bridgeport, he attended Madison Elementary School followed by Central High School. Mike enlisted in the US Army and was assigned to the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne. Following his service in the military, Mike joined the Bricklayers and Allied Craftsman Union where he worked as a bricklayer before he went to work for The City of Bridgeport as a mason for the next 25 years. Throughout his career, he helped to build and restore many of the buildings in the area that are still in use today such as hospitals, government buildings, fire and emergency facilities and schools.
Retiring in Southbury, Mike continued with his love of gardening, jazz music, spending time with friends and family and spending the winter months in Naples, FL. Mike will be remembered as a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and uncle to his beloved friends and family.
He is survived by his wife Jeanne (Colaluca) of 61 years, his sister-in-law Elizabeth Mercaldi, sister-in-law Deanna Discenza (John), his children Laura Shemancik (Ken) and Tony Mercaldi (Lauren), his grandchildren Krystin Ferenz, Danielle Ferenz, Alexander Mercaldi, Brooke Mercaldi, Dylan Mercaldi, Max Shemancik and Cam Shemancik along with many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on April 22, 2022 at Sacred Heart Church in Southbury. His family will receive visitors prior to Mass in the Daily Chapel of the church from 9:00 - 10:45 AM. Interment with military honors will be at New North Cemetery in Woodbury.
