Charles Stack Obituary

SAUGUS -- Charles Melley Anthony Stack III, age 38 and lifelong resident of Saugus, died on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House following a lengthy illness. Born in Melrose in 1980, Charlie was the beloved son of Charles M.A., Jr. and Nancy M. (Hiscock) Stack of Saugus. He attended Saugus Public Schools and graduated from St. Mary's High School, Lynn in 1998, where he was captain of both the football and baseball teams. Following graduation, Charlie attended Lynn University, Boca Raton, Fla., Central Piedmont Community College, Charlotte, N.C., and Salem State College. In February of 2005, Charlie enlisted in the United States Army, 82nd Airborne Division, 325th Infantry Regiment, with the hopes of serving his country and conquering his fear of flying. Following two tours of duty during Operation Iraqi Freedom, he was honorably discharged on July 3, 2008. He returned home a decorated war veteran but not without some struggles. Soon after his return he began to show signs of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Charlie worked as laborer for the City of Malden Department of Public Works until the side effects of PTSD became too much. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his beloved nephews and loved fishing. Charlie was a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to so many. Those who knew him best will miss his quick wit, his piercing blue eyes and mischievous smile. In addition to his parents Charles Jr. and Nancy, Charlie is survived by his loving sister, Darcy Stack; and brother, Gregory Stack, both of Saugus; his beloved nephews, Carson Pelle and Patrick Gibbons; his aunts and uncles, Sandra Longo, Cheryl and Roger Gay, Karen and Christopher Piscitelli, and Bonnie Logue, and his many cousins and close friends. He was the grandson of the late George and Rosalie Hiscock and Charles M.A., Sr. and Doris Stack. Service information: A family lead memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2019 in the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn, at 1 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
